Autobooks: The $48M B2B Trojan Horse
How a 97-person team is quietly rewriting small business banking
While fintech unicorns chase consumer wallets, Autobooks is executing a quiet takeover of small business banking through the back door—powered by 97 employees and $47.8M in funding.
"Autobooks isn't competing with banks—it's becoming their operating system."
The Invisible 97%
With 74% direct traffic, Autobooks has achieved what most fintechs dream of: a user base that doesn't rely on SEO or paid acquisition. Their top search term is simply 'autobooks'—branded searches from existing users. This isn't a growth hack; it's product-led distribution through banking partnerships that embed them directly into business workflows.
The Partnership Playbook
The second most searched term reveals the strategy: 'autobooks partner banks.' Autobooks isn't building a standalone app—they're the invisible engine inside TD Bank, Bluevine, and regional financial institutions. While competitors burn cash acquiring users, Autobooks gets paid by banks to handle invoicing, payments, and bookkeeping for their existing business customers.
The 2.2/5 Trustpilot rating from just 8 reviews tells a story of a B2B2C product where end-users aren't the customer—banks are. The friction exists at the bank partnership level, not the product experience itself. When your user is a small business owner who's forced to use your tool through their bank, satisfaction metrics get distorted.
- Revenue-to-employee ratio of $130K is lean for fintech—suggests high automation
- 12% organic traffic indicates minimal marketing spend; growth is partner-driven
- Top keyword 'reset autobooks password' signals sticky, daily-use product
- Tech stack reveals modern but pragmatic choices: Tailwind, Bootstrap, jQuery
The Quiet Giant in B2B Fintech
Autobooks is building the rails for small business banking, not just another app. At $12.6M revenue with 97 employees, they're profitable or close to it—unlike most Series B fintechs burning cash. The question isn't whether they'll scale; it's whether they'll remain invisible or finally brand themselves as the infrastructure they've become.

Closed my account with no notice or good reason
I used Autobooks through my TD bank account for 2 months to send invoices and recieve payments. Then they unexpectally cancelled a customers payment and closed my account with zero warning due to “recent chargebacks within your business banking history and average bank balance that is insufficient to cover potential chargebacks and disputes.” Only one time a customer made a payment from the wrong account and it was promptly resolved (Autobooks collected a fee twice on the same transaction) and that is it. My account had a sizable balance and was growing each month. Worst part was I was given no notice or opportunity to meet any of these “requirements.” They just closed my account and returned payment which does not look good to customers for a new business. They even said to try Square or Paypal in their explaination to me which is exactly what I’ll do. Highly recommend saving the trouble and using anyone besides Autobooks or TD Bank.
DON’T use Autobooks!!!!
Do yourself and your company a favor and go find a more reputable platform. This company is not legit and is horrible for small businesses. Just don’t do it.
Unprompted rejected payment and account closure
Autobooks decided to reject a clients payment with no reason other than "a thorough review by our team" followed by an email that my account will be closed in 7 days because my "business does not meet merchant account guidelines". They provided no method of remedying the situation even after contacting their customer "success" team. It reflects poorly and unprofessional to have to re-request payment using another invoice. Luckily there are other payment processors that will take the fees I pay for this service since Autobooks apparently doesn't want the business.
Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry that we were not able to continue offering you services. To maintain approval for payment processing, specific business and financial criteria must be met. Unfortunately, when an account does not meet our requirements, we are not able to approve your continued use of the application.
Avoid at All Costs!
Your service started off great, but as we expanded our client base utilizing your service, it became the worst service I have ever experienced. You jeopardized our cash flow due to your slow communications and vague policies, which led to a rejected payment without any explanation. Worst of all, it required us to call repeatedly for updates, as your team would promise communication but never followed through.
Avoid
I sent a cancellation request for my business account. I promptly received email notifying me of receipt of cancellation request and confirmation of cancellation. A month later i was charged again. The customer service rep, (employee) wrote the following: “Those request would need to be taken up with your financial institution. Thanks, (Employee) (Employee name redacted) Customer Support Specialist Office: (866)617-3122 autobooks.co” Poor customer service and no resolution of issues.
