The Unseen Engine of Philippine Crypto
Why 18M Filipinos trust Coins.ph despite its 1.3-star rating
While Western crypto exchanges collapse and rebuild trust from zero, Coins.ph operates as the invisible financial backbone for 18 million Filipinos. It's the unglamorous, high-volume engine powering the Philippines' crypto adoption, processing transactions for as little as ₱5.
"Coins.ph doesn't compete on hype—it wins on utility, becoming the default bridge between traditional finance and crypto for an entire nation."
The Mass Market Play
With 70% direct traffic (455K monthly visits), Coins.ph has achieved what every fintech dreams of: becoming a verb. Users don't search for 'crypto exchange'—they type 'coins.ph' directly. This isn't brand loyalty; it's infrastructure dependency. The 24% organic search traffic for branded terms reveals a platform that has transcended its category.
The Trust Paradox
Here's the brutal irony: 18M users trust Coins.ph enough to deposit money, yet its Trustpilot rating sits at a dismal 1.3/5 from 130 reviews. This disconnect exposes the platform's real moat—regulatory compliance and fiat on/off-ramps. When the alternative is illegal P2P trading or no access at all, users tolerate friction.
The tech stack reveals a pragmatic, not cutting-edge, approach. They use Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, and Material UI simultaneously—a patchwork that screams 'move fast and ship features.' No exotic blockchain infrastructure, just solid PWA architecture that works on any device. This isn't a crypto-native team; it's a payments company that adopted crypto.
- Dominates Philippines' crypto market with 18M users (likely 15-20% of adult population)
- Revenue-per-employee of ~$74K—lean for fintech but efficient for emerging markets
- Backlinks (135K) suggest strong SEO authority, but direct traffic dominance shows brand supremacy
- Key leadership includes Dancel Cruz (Deputy CRO) and William Jiang (Head OTC)—risk and payments focus
The Infrastructure Play Wins
Coins.ph proves that in emerging markets, regulatory compliance and fiat integration beat technical innovation every time. They're not building the future of crypto—they're making crypto usable for today's Filipinos.

I have been using coins.ph long before…
I have been using coins.ph long before the Covid19 pandemic and I am still using it now. I was very surprised when I read reviews about the app here in trust pilot because none of those issues raised by them I have personally experienced. I am using it to receive crypto payments from my online transactions and cash them in anytime I want and whenever I want it. And I am giving them 5 stars based on my personal experience. P.S. coins.ph is regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. That being said, you may directly contact the BSP if you have issues with the app.
*CLI---XOT* support was amazing
*CLI---XOT* support was amazing! They were super helpful in sorting out my £8,500, frozen fund issue, and that was expected
DO NOT EVER USE THIS APP
DO NOT EVER USE THIS APP As a long-time crypto user, I expected smoother service—especially when it comes to something as important as receiving my salary. Instead, I was met with unnecessary delays and repeated requests for documents that simply don’t exist in many remote work setups (like contracts or employer certifications). I explained clearly that I’m a freelancer working for a client, but they still rejected the transaction and are now taking 3-5 business days just to send the funds back. They received the money instantly, but returning it? Days of waiting. That’s rent and bills on hold—for no real reason. I understand the need for compliance, but Coins.ph seems poorly equipped to support freelancers and digital workers who don’t fit into the traditional mold. If you're a remote worker relying on timely payments, I suggest using other crypto wallets that are more freelancer-friendly.

Foreigner here. Registered in May 2024, turned over several millions of PHP through this exchange and brought them to this country from abroad (obviously). Used it to receive funds from family and friends in crypto only. The exchange has been "inviting" me to KYC myself even though everything was provided to them upon registration. June 2025 they deactivated my account saying i didn't comply with KYC requirements so apparently these "invites" were not just invites. Tried contacting support - they put me through 12 long lasting days of softball emails demanding some papers. After everything was provided their team took 2 days to respond that my account is now closed. To add: Deposits if not in USDT are slow to be credited on your balance, withdrawals take 15+ minutes (manual basically). If your sending wallet is not "verified" (by their own criteria), they'll refund it in 5-10 business days which is laughable for 2025. My 10k usdt and 0.2 btc deposits were declined and i freaked out because the money was needed here urgently. If that's how best crypto exchange of the Philippines looks like i am truly sorry for the users. Hopefully some good competitor is being built right now. I'll be looking out for one now to be their customer. Good liquidity and exchange rate on USDT/PHP pair though, like... always and as it should be. The WORST. I do not recommend.
Coins.ph blocked my transaction without real reason and won’t unlock my account
I’ve been using Coins.ph to send crypto, but recently they blocked my transaction to another exchange without clear explanation. I provided all requested documents (ID, screenshots, transaction details), yet my account remains restricted. Support replies are generic, and it feels like they don’t want to release funds to competing exchanges. I’ve complied with everything, but there’s zero transparency and no real updates. It seems like they are intentionally holding my money hostage. This is very concerning, especially for a regulated platform. I strongly do not recommend using Coins.ph until they become more transparent and fair to their users.
