The French hospital system is dangerous for patients
This review is the culmination of experience with many of the hospitals in the Paris health system, first with my husband and then my own experience. There were many times when the patients file was not available to the doctor . They forgot to do a test that meant that my husband did not have the correct treatment for a year and that possibly affected his survival. One time they were going to give him another patients chemo, I was the one who noticed not the nurses or the doctor. Another time the bathroom was full of excrement on the floor in a room my husband was sharing with a very sick patient. The nurses told my husband to go into the bathroom anyway . He had to yell and point out that the other patient should be in a single room because of his condition . there is a lack of hospital protocols that make for a safe system. Doctors and nurses are overworked and cannot do a safe and good job. There is no basic hygiene. My hospital room, especially the bathroom was dirty and I was going to have an operation. Even the ordinary public toilets. Several times, there was no soap to wash your hands with.not only are there medical mistakes and unhygienic conditions but patients (and staff) are not safe. There was the story of a patient being raped in the emergency room of Cochin hospital.i could go on and on. Doctors and nurses are leaving and conditions are getting worse and worse.
