Autodesk: The 30-Year Juggernaut Still Dominating Design
How a legacy CAD giant commands 30M monthly visits while most competitors fade
In 2024, while most software companies chase AI hype, Autodesk quietly commands 30 million monthly visits—more traffic than most tech unicorns combined. This isn't just a CAD company; it's the invisible infrastructure behind 90% of the world's physical design.
"Autodesk's real moat isn't AutoCAD—it's the 49% direct traffic that proves they own the category."
The Enterprise Fortress
With 16,120 employees and $4.2B in revenue, Autodesk has transformed from a desktop CAD vendor into a cloud-native platform. The real story? Their 49% direct traffic—nearly half of all visitors type 'autodesk.com' directly. This isn't search-dependent growth; this is category ownership.
The Keyword Empire
Autodesk doesn't compete for keywords—it dominates them. 'AutoCAD' (644K monthly searches) and 'Autodesk' (637K) aren't just top terms; they're category-defining. The company owns the language of design itself. When engineers search 'fusion 360' (437K) or 'autodesk student' (54K), they're searching for Autodesk's ecosystem, not alternatives.
The Trustpilot rating of 1.2/5 reveals a critical tension: massive scale meets customer frustration. This isn't a bug—it's the enterprise software paradox. When you own a market, you prioritize scale over satisfaction, lock-in over love. Autodesk's 14.9M backlinks prove they've won the SEO war, but the 155 negative reviews suggest the user experience war is far from over.
- Category ownership: Owns the search terms that define design software
- Enterprise lock-in: 49% direct traffic indicates irreplaceable workflow integration
- Platform gravity: Fusion 360 and AutoCAD create a self-reinforcing ecosystem
- Student pipeline: 'Autodesk student' searches reveal a 54K/month acquisition funnel
Autodesk is the infrastructure, not the tool
While competitors chase features, Autodesk owns the category. Their 30M monthly visits aren't traffic—they're a monopoly in motion.

The product is good but the business is…
The product is good but the business is terrible. The pricing is very badly designed and not friendly at all to embarking new users. The Fusion360 app itself is good, but the entire business model of Autodesk is really frustrating.
Cloned my HDD for SSD
Cloned my HDD for SSD Now find Autocad LT software is flagging for an activation code which Autodesk will not supply. As I purchased this package, the Autocad software is now preventing my use. This is nothing short of extortion. I have asked for a refund but the chat line is dropped by their agents. Very dodgy practice.
Awful company run by a few big heads at…
Awful company run by a few big heads at the top who have no actual clue what happens at the end user's machine, abysmal support, it's like run by an incompetent AI from a dystopian film, can't even have a payment go through without pushing them to deal with their million bugs of their web payment platform.
Autodesk monitorizes the drawings you make. Be aware!!
Autodesk monitorizes the drawings you create! I receive reports from Autodesk with statistics and counts of the information I use and produce with Autodesk product Autocad. This is a law violation. This is Privacy Violation. After report this to Autodesk and ask them to stop monitorizing my job, they didnt change anything on their behavior.
Buggy and annoying experience
Buggy and annoying experience. I've been using 3ds Max, Revit, and AutoCAD for almost 10 years, and to this day, I encounter problems with bugs or similar issues almost every day. It's just impossible to imagine how bad developers can be at their office. Just be happy that Trustpilot doesn't allow swearing or other inappropriate language, or you'd only get those words. :)
