Free plan is very enough.
Shodan free plan is not useful but Censys is different. I use this over year but I don't need paid plan. This is best scanner.

Reply to a 'so called' review
A 'so called' positive review states that it's peoples own fault for seeing traffic originating from this company because: "you publicly exposed your ip on the Internet". Well, that is not how IP-addresses work. They are public by default! Just don't blame people for having an internet connection. Fight the entities that try to break into other peoples systems. My Experience is that this company keeps hitting my firewall every second and does not stop. I have not requested any service from them, I am not a customer and have therefore not given my consent to keep attacking my infrastructure. I don't consider this behavior 'research', I see it as a criminal enterprise that deserves blocking.
Hackers posing as security professionals
We contacted Censys after seeing one of our sites under a constant attack from their Ip ranges. Their systems were attempting "IPsec / L2tp" login attempts. Upon contacting them they claimed their systems do not attempt to access services which is an outright lie. They also began hitting my offices equipment which meant they were also watching connected streams from our clients router. Censys appear to be hackers hiding behind the guise of a legitimate security company. Or they have users abusing their software. Regardless we've added all their Ip ranges to our shared blacklists. we've also reported them to the authorities.
