Ceretone: The OTC Hearing Aid Disruptor
How a niche DTC brand is redefining accessibility with world's smallest design
In an industry dominated by legacy players charging $3,000+ for hearing aids, Ceretone is betting that design and accessibility will win. With a claim to the 'world's smallest' hearing aid and a direct-to-consumer model, they're not just selling devices—they're dismantling a medical gatekeeping system.
"They're not competing with traditional hearing aid companies—they're making them irrelevant by removing the audiologist bottleneck entirely."
The Unfair Advantage
Ceretone's core strategy is radical simplicity: bypass the $3,000+ traditional hearing aid market by offering FDA-cleared OTC devices directly to consumers. Their 'world's smallest' claim isn't just marketing—it's a tangible differentiator in a market where aesthetics and discretion are paramount. With 52% direct traffic, they've built a brand that customers seek out by name, not through medical referrals.
The Traffic Puzzle
Here's where it gets interesting: despite 77K monthly visits, their organic search is only 32%. This suggests strong word-of-mouth and direct brand recognition, but also untapped SEO potential. The keyword 'fortell' (10.7K monthly searches) appears in their data—a mysterious mismatch that hints at either a data anomaly or a strategic keyword play gone sideways. Either way, their traffic profile screams 'brand-first,' not 'search-first.'
The Trustpilot rating of 2.9/5 from just 5 reviews is a red flag for scale. In the hearing aid space, where trust is everything, this low volume of feedback suggests either early-stage operations or a need for aggressive reputation management. Their tech stack—jQuery, Tailwind, Bootstrap—reveals a pragmatic, not cutting-edge, approach: build fast, ship fast, iterate later. No fancy AI or proprietary algorithms here, just solid execution on a proven model.
- World's smallest OTC hearing aid design (key differentiator)
- Direct-to-consumer model bypassing audiologists (cost advantage)
- Strong brand recognition (52% direct traffic)
- Early-stage social presence (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram)
- Minimal review volume (5 Trustpilot reviews) signals growth phase
The Verdict: A Play for Scale or a Niche Winner?
Ceretone is executing a classic DTC playbook—design, direct, disrupt. But with low traffic and minimal reviews, they're either on the cusp of scaling or stuck in the 'early adopter' trap. For investors, the question is simple: Can they turn brand recognition into market share before incumbents catch up? For founders, the lesson is clearer: In commoditized markets, design and accessibility win.

Replacement Domes for Ceretone Torch hearing aids
I purchased a Ceretone Torch hearing aid not knowing that getting the correct (small) replacement domes would be a problem. Now, to get a year's supply of domes, replacement required every 2-3 months, will cost me over$100.- as Ceretone only provides one pair of size small in the package of multi sizes. This means I am to spend a lot and also to junk the unusable sizes.Had this been clear, I’d never have bought these aids. And support offers no reasonable solution, so I will need to replace the aids" ‘
Mr. Kramer, Thank you for reaching out and letting us know about your concern. I've spoken with our product team to expedite the process in acquiring ear tips for the Torch hearing aids in stock as soon as possible. If it would be ok with you, we can give you a call as soon as this becomes available if you'd like? Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding! Torch is a relatively new product in our lineup and we're still working on getting all of the odds and ends in stock and ready to go.
Upon first charging the hearing aids it…
Upon first charging the hearing aids it became apparent that getting them to connect to the charger was going to be difficult. They will connect momentarily and then lose connection. It is as though they need a magnet to hold them down in the charger. I have not read of anyone else having this experience but it appears to be a significant design flaw. The hearing aids themselves are acceptable. The charging is NOT. UPDATE: The problem appears to be that the pull-devices on the hearing aids can interfere with the cradles for charging. One has to be very careful and make sure the pulls are straight or they will dislodge the connections.
Marcus, We appreciate your feedback. We've sent a request for additional contact information so that our customer service team can reach out to do our best to assist. Thank you again for your patience and understanding! UPDATE: Thank you, Marcus! I just got this over to my customer service team. Someone should be reaching out in the next 24 hours.
Waiting for refund.....
Ear buds arrived damaged / broken. Product looks good in writing and I wish them every success but I need my refund as I need something else. I have been promised a refund and to use the return label they are sending me. However that never showed up. Finally received a refund, so upgraded to 2 stars from one.

Take care and be safe, Bryan Manager, Customer Service
This company is not to be trusted
This company is not to be trusted. Rubbish hearing aids, app does not work and although they promise a refund, the refund never comes. I had to do a chargeback through Barclays to get my money back. I still have the hearing aids just sitting there as they are not interested. First it was Dave messing me about. Then Carmela did the same thing, although at first she seemed genuine, but I soon discovered that she's like Dave, just promises. All they had to do was to refund to the same account they took the money from. Very bad company, not to be trusted EDITED: With regards to the reply below from Ceratone / Audicon, I have contacted Barclays and also checked back the May and June transactions in my bank account and the refund is not in there. All Audicon needs to do is refund to the same original payment which is what I requested back in July of 2023, however they would not do that which is now causing all these issues. I still want the refund, thank you
Sunny, As our agents mentioned, we already refunded your order on May 8, 2024 for the amount of $289USD. It was sent to Barclay's bank on your behalf. We will be sending you a copy of the receipt of the disbursed payment again. At this point, it looks like you will need to contact Barclay's to figure out why they haven't credited your account. I apologize for the inconvenience, but at this point it does show on my end that the funds were already sent to you.
