Domain.com.au: Australia's Real Estate Powerhouse
How a 16M+ monthly visit giant dominates Australia's property market
In Australia's cutthroat real estate tech landscape, Domain.com.au isn't just competing—it's dominating. With 16.4 million monthly visits, it's the digital backbone of the nation's property hunt, commanding a market that's anything but virtual.
"Domain doesn't just list properties—it owns the Australian real estate conversation. With 9.6M backlinks and 43% organic traffic, it's built an unbreakable moat."
The Unshakeable User Base
Here's what's remarkable: 49% of traffic comes directly to Domain.com.au. This isn't accidental discovery—it's intentional habit. Australians don't Google 'property listings'; they type 'domain.com.au' into their browser. That's brand equity worth hundreds of millions. The 43% organic search share proves they're also winning the SEO war, while 9.6M backlinks create a defensive moat that competitors would take decades to replicate.
The Revenue Reality
With $329.9M in revenue and 1,571 employees, Domain's economics are fascinating. That's roughly $210K revenue per employee—solid for a digital classifieds business. But the real story is in the margins. Real estate platforms have high fixed costs but insane scalability. Every additional listing costs almost nothing to host, but drives exponential value. Domain's 16.4M monthly visits represent a funnel that converts browsers into buyers, and their data science team (led by Yashar Maali) is likely optimizing every click for maximum transaction value.
The keyword strategy reveals their dominance: 'domain' alone drives 437K monthly searches, while 'real estate' (447K) and 'realestate' (197K) show they're capturing the entire search spectrum. This isn't accidental—it's a calculated SEO strategy that makes them the default result for every property-related query in Australia.
- Direct traffic supremacy (49%) indicates unparalleled brand authority in Australian property
- 9.6M backlinks create an SEO fortress competitors can't easily breach
- Strategic keyword capture across 'domain', 'real estate', and 'property' terms
- Revenue per employee ($210K) shows efficient scaling in a classifieds model
The Verdict: A Digital Fortress with Cracks
Domain dominates Australian real estate traffic but faces brand perception challenges that could erode its moat

Property information is inaccurate…
Property information is inaccurate misaligned with core logic data. They're non- responsive when you inform them, clearly don't refresh their listings at all.
They're terrible
They, Domain, acted as if they were very hard up for money. They were confusing, not helpful at all. When I tried to explain I wasn't domain/website savvy the mushiness even got worse. When I contacted on the seventh day of service with them, they said they couldn't reimburse any money. And the worse thing is that they wanted more money for anything extra they would do, i.e., link our present website that has already been built with one of the domains we had purchased. I would use this company if they were the very last service in the world.
Has completely wrong property details…
Has completely wrong property details listed on my property listing, which means the valuation is completely wrong, causing subsequent impacts. They do not allow you to correct the details, and they give you no timeline on when they will fix the issues.
To be honest I was their employee they…
To be honest I was their employee they will use you until they wont need you anymore. They will make excuses about things which is not true. Dont even bother applying any roles with them at all. They are useless bunch of platform website and they are lairs.
