The Cloth Pad Revolution
How EcoFemme is disrupting menstrual health from Auroville, India
While the global feminine hygiene market is dominated by $12 billion disposable giants, a quiet revolution is happening in Auroville, India. EcoFemme isn't just selling cloth pads—they're dismantling the taboos around menstruation while building a profitable, sustainable alternative that serves both the planet and women's empowerment.
"They're not just selling pads—they're selling dignity, sustainability, and economic independence in one washable package."
The Trust Paradox
With only 4 Trustpilot reviews but a 4/5 rating, EcoFemme faces the classic D2C challenge: building trust at scale. Their 43% organic traffic suggests strong word-of-mouth, but their global rank (#5.4M) reveals they're still a niche player. The real story? Their backlink profile isn't tracked, but their YouTube channel and Instagram presence show they're investing in community-driven content over paid acquisition.
The SEO Goldmine They're Missing
Here's the provocative truth: EcoFemme owns 'cloth pads' (1,490 monthly searches) but completely misses 'reusable pads' (3,030 monthly searches)—a term with double the volume. They rank for 'eco femme' (10 searches) but not for broader menstrual health terms. This isn't a failure; it's an opportunity. With only 33 employees and $5.5M revenue, they're a prime acquisition target for any player wanting to own the sustainable menstrual care narrative in India.
Their tech stack tells a story of pragmatism over flash: jQuery and Bootstrap suggest they're optimizing for reliability over bleeding-edge performance. But with Tailwind CSS and Vite in the mix, they're clearly modernizing. The real insight? They're using Priority Hints—a sophisticated technique for a company of their size, showing they care about user experience despite limited resources.
- Revenue per employee: ~$166K (healthy for a social enterprise)
- Organic dominance: 43% of traffic comes from search, not paid ads
- Geographic ambiguity: 68.8% 'undefined' traffic suggests either tracking issues or emerging market penetration
- Content strategy: Blog exists but isn't driving keyword volume—yet
The Unsexy Truth About Sustainable Feminine Care
EcoFemme proves that mission-driven businesses can scale without venture capital—if they focus on community over clicks.

Making the switch
4.5 years ago, I started struggling with rashes when I used disposables on my periods and it had become unbearable whenever I got my period. After researching, I came across Eco Femme, and it's been the best decision ever! The pads are super comfortable and I love the colour ranges that they have. Moreover, the washing process is not as tedious as it looks like, rather it is very easy. I've never used a plastic pad since then. I think I've also become very accustomed to the routine of washing on my cycle. The wonderful women at Eco Femme are always there to help, let it be tracking your order or something related to the pads, there will definitely be someone who'd tell you how to take care of the pads or what is happening with your body so that you have a happy and dignified period. More power to the team for what they're doing! <3
Brand Loyal Since 2014
I switched to cloth pads in 2014. After much research and trials I chose Eco Femme cloth pads. It had been 8 yrs and I use only Eco Femme cloth pads. I am loyal to the brand and it's ethics. The night pad from organic range is my absolute saviour. It is soft, good coverage, white base to inspect your menstrual cycle. I have also widened my perspective on menstruation 🩸 matters from the blogs and online information. Ever since the traditional textile range like kalamkari, baatik indigo has been launched I am sure to stock up on these beauties as well. Invest in sustainable menstrual products for yourself, the planet and the larger community of artisans. Donate to the pad for pad program so that period poverty and inequity can be addressed. More power to my sisters at Eco Femme
I switched to cloth pads to help with…
I switched to cloth pads to help with my UTI and fungal infection that just wouldn't go. I had to go to five different doctors, three hospitals, be diagnosed for the wrong ailments, get crazy amounts of blood tests, take a year off from my college (for my ayurvedic treatment)... until my doctor told me about the toxins in plastic pads and asked me to buy Eco Femme cloth pads (she was specific! and I am glad she was - only cloth pad in in India with GOTS certification which lets them sell to European countries as well). When I first saw Eco Femme cloth pads I thought, “well, this looks too cool and colorful to be a life changing decision”. For me, it was easy to make the switch!
Love Eco Femme organic cloth pads... comfortable and ethical :)
Love Eco Femme pads - they are very good quality, soft with leakproof layer and GOTS organic certification... and they are beautiful too, now I smile when I go to change my pad (something that never happened with disposable pads, ha!) Feels extra good knowing that Eco Femme also works with other girls and women from low income backgrounds to provide menstrual health education and cloth pads... so my choice is not only good for myself and the earth, but also for others... eco sisterhood in action <3
Thanks Lauren for this nice review! We're so glad our pads make you smile during your period and bring you extra comfort during that time of the month :D
