Problems on my Grundsteuer Return. Contact with the NRW Hotline
I had problems completing my return for the Grundsteuer. I contacted the NRW hotline and asked for there assistance. The personnel were extremely helpful, patent and competent. After 10 minutes my was return was completed and sent.

I am extremely disappointed by the lack of transparency and the complexity of the procedures. The online portal provides refund estimates that turn out to be misleading once the final tax assessment is received by mail. Alleged past debts were deducted directly from my refund, completely automatically and without any clear explanation or prior warning. Furthermore, I have been waiting for over a year to be paid the money I am rightfully owed. Added to this is the impossibility of claiming your money or getting help: the emails and the support ticket system are completely saturated. And if you try to reach them by phone, the agents only speak German, which blocks all communication. The documents are incomprehensible, and trying to get an error corrected is an absolute nightmare. A horrible administrative experience and nonexistent customer service.
Doesn't work if you have left Germany
After leaving germany and filing my last tax year tax return, the tax office asked me a question. The letter said I could use ELSTER for responding. It doesn't allow me to register with my foreign ID. It doesn't allow me to register with my foreign address. What's the point? If I am already in Germany, why would I need such a system? Are you bunch of dorks?

Extremely rude and not very helpful for foreingers to do their tax. They refuse to speak anything else but german, their website is impossible to understand even translated, and the people hang up and only answer you in german when you try in english. So critical. Germany is so behind welcoming foreingers
