Hux: The Atlanta Cleaning Service That Missed the Mark
A $14.5M revenue company struggling to scale beyond its backyard
In the crowded gig economy, Hux promised to be the Uber of home cleaning. With $14.5M in revenue and 64 employees, they've built a sustainable local business in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Dallas—but they've failed to become a national platform. Here's why.
"Hux built a solid local service business, but failed to build a scalable platform. The numbers tell the story: 3,000 monthly visits for a $14.5M revenue company is painfully low conversion."
The Growth Ceiling
Hux's traffic profile reveals a fundamental limitation: 47% direct traffic and only 23% organic search. This isn't a brand that scales through viral growth or SEO—it scales through operational excellence in specific markets. The company ranks #4,004,000 globally, indicating they're not competing in the digital discovery game at all. Their top keyword 'hux' gets 1,810 monthly searches, but 'house clean' only 370. They're not capturing the broad market; they're servicing a narrow, loyal customer base.
The Trust Problem
With a 2/5 Trustpilot rating from just 10 reviews, Hux faces a critical reputation challenge. For a service-based business where trust is everything, this rating is alarming. The company's promise of 'background checked and interviewed' cleaners doesn't translate to customer satisfaction. Their support email ([email protected]) suggests a reactive rather than proactive customer service approach. The lack of Trustpilot volume (only 10 reviews) indicates either low volume or review suppression—both red flags for investors.
The tech stack tells a story of pragmatic simplicity: Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, Google Analytics, Cloudflare. This isn't a cutting-edge platform—it's a functional website built to convert, not to innovate. The presence of Facebook Pixel and Cloudinary suggests they're focused on basic digital marketing and image optimization, not AI-driven matching or dynamic pricing algorithms. For a company claiming to be tech-enabled, the stack is surprisingly vanilla.
- Geographic concentration: Only 3 cities despite $14.5M revenue—this is a regional player, not a national platform
- Traffic dependency: 47% direct traffic suggests heavy reliance on repeat customers and word-of-mouth, not scalable acquisition
- Low digital footprint: 3,044 monthly visits is shockingly low for a company of this size, indicating they're not investing in growth marketing
Hux is a lifestyle business, not a venture-scale opportunity
Solid economics but zero network effects or defensibility. The question isn't whether they'll fail—it's whether they'll ever become more than a regional champion.

HUX did a great joinery job for me
HUX did a great joinery job for me. Quality could not be faulted, delivered on time and at the cost agreed. would highly recommend.
Its the best cleaning bro
I have stubbornly cleaned my own house for years and used to be hesitant that a house cleaner would even be worth anything to me. I say "used to be" because Hux has changed my opinion on that. When I came home after my first Hux service I found that my cleaning person had cleaned every surface in my house– my sliding glass doors, porch handrails, mirrors, and organized stuff on my counters like fruits and girlfriend's bathroom clutter. I always thought I was "good enough" but Hux is better. The website is also amazing, as in its as easy as Uber to use. You can enter your house info and it will calculate live prices for all providers, which is another great thing because you can actually pick your cleaner. That's actually the best part. If you think about it it must be hard to do that, logistically speaking. But it's such a great perk.
Don't recommend
The GOOD (G): (1G) The website is easy to use. (2G) the cleaner showed up early, (3G) the cleaner sent pics as requested. THE BAD (B): (1B) The cleaner did not communicate when she should have and that caused big issues that could have easily been avoided with a simple conversation via phone or via text, (2B) $55/hour for an individual cleaner is outrageous, (3B) especially for the work performed, which the realtor mentioned was subpar. STEER CLEAR of "Light Cleaning": They don't really do anything. Maybe this particular cleaner would have cleaned better if someone had been there?
Charged full price for unrequested and undelivered service. See update….after multiple attempts, HUX FINALLY agreed to their terms of a partial refund for undelivered service.
Cleaner showed up at my door unexpectedly, and was turned away because we did not request service. Hux charged me $218 (which is high for a 2 bedroom house), and refused to honor their terms of providing a refund for service not provided. I have contacted them 3-4 times by email, requesting resolution. They said they would resolve...........never happened. Also, THEY HAVE NO PHONE NUMBER YOU CAN CALL FOR PROBLEM RESOLUTION. If they resolve, I will repost resolution. Beware. UPDATE, after multiple attempts to resolve, HUX has finally agreed to honor their terms of a partial refund.
They increased their fee and charged us without notification
We scheduled to have a cleaner come and clean with the expectation of a fee of 113. All of our needs were within the expectations but the cleaner decided to add 2 more hours to the service. The company changed our flat rate to am hourly rate and imcrease the charge without contacting us or asking us permission to proceed with the change. They do not have a support phone number to directly speak with them either.
