The WordPress Security Paradox
A niche giant's struggle with scale and reputation in the crowded plugin market
iThemes (SolidWP) represents a classic WordPress ecosystem paradox: a veteran player with deep technical roots that somehow struggles to break through the noise. With just 2,510 monthly visits and a 1.9-star Trustpilot rating, the data reveals a company caught between legacy and modernity.
"In the WordPress security space, being 'reliable' is table stakes—iThemes hasn't evolved that promise since 2014."
The Invisible Audience
With only 25 employees and $2.5M in revenue, iThemes operates in a tight, insular market. The traffic distribution—undefined regions at 53.5% vs 46.5%—suggests either measurement issues or a fragmented customer base. Their primary keyword 'ithemes' captures just 420 monthly searches, indicating they're fighting for brand recognition in a space dominated by giants like Wordfence and Sucuri.
The Legacy Trap
Founded in 2014, iThemes built its reputation on security and backups—critical but commoditized services. Their tech stack (jQuery, Bootstrap, core-js) signals a modern front-end, but the 1.9-star rating reveals a deeper problem: customers aren't satisfied. For a security plugin, trust is everything, and that rating is a red flag for any serious investor or founder evaluating this space.
The company's leadership, represented by WordPress Technician Daphne Haddad, suggests a technical-first culture. But in today's SaaS landscape, technical excellence alone doesn't drive growth. The lack of funding data and modest revenue point to a bootstrapped operation that may be plateauing.
- Niche focus on WordPress security creates a narrow TAM
- Low traffic metrics suggest poor SEO and content strategy
- Trustpilot rating (1.9/5) indicates severe customer satisfaction issues
- Revenue per employee (~$100K) is below SaaS industry benchmarks
The WordPress Security Market Doesn't Reward Incrementalism
iThemes has survived but hasn't thrived. For investors and founders, this is a cautionary tale about the limits of being 'reliable' in a market that demands innovation.

Out of date documentation
I have a BackupBuddy subscription. While I have used the plugin to migrate and restore my website, it is very buggy. I frequently encounter unusable backup files created by the plugin. Every few months I return to try to configure the S3 remote destination feature. Then I remember the setup documentation is out of date and does not reflect the current AWS configuration. After wasting an hour or more I abandon the setup. I recently contacted iThemes about the outdated documentation whose only response was to prompt me to renew my support subscription.
if you want best customer service it's better to choose others.
Some services are ok, but if you want best software and customer service it's better to choose others.
Restrict content pro service is non-existent
Restrict content pro...since they went under the ithemes umbrella, there is absolutely no service. None. I can't even get them to respond to a request to upgrade my service. It's a shame, because I like the plugin.
Gold Version - support needs significant improvement
I purchased the gold version of itheme's backup plugin backupbuddy, generally the backup plugin does work, though you do have to tinker with some of the settings. Be aware though it can be very resource intensive on your site. As for their support, generally they try to deflect issues back to the customer. I recently opened an issue and as I was away for a few weeks, they had close this issue. So I have to again wast time opening another new request, which is that they removed functionality between releases and I had to spend the entire morning documenting where they removed functionality - rather than trusting the customer.
scammer and untrusted company
scammer and untrusted company i have unlimited websites annual subscription and they charged my creditcard and got no subsscription anymore and no support ticket answers and no ways to contact them . while security services should be 24/7 online they dont offer any support at all . be careful before dealing or buying any product from them and since they changed the brand to solid security they are cheaters scammers
