Remploy: The Ghost in the UK Job Machine
A 1,042-employee behemoth with $175M revenue, yet it's a digital ghost. Here's why.
Remploy isn't just a website; it's a legacy brand swallowed by the UK's welfare industrial complex. Once a government-owned employment service for the disabled, it's now a subsidiary of Maximus—the same US giant that runs the UK's controversial Work Capability Assessments. But its digital footprint? Almost invisible.
"Remploy is a ghost in the machine: a massive public-sector entity with a digital presence smaller than a local bakery."
The Invisible Workforce
With over 1,000 employees and $175M in revenue, you'd expect a robust digital hub. Instead, remploy.co.uk is a single-page redirect to Maximus. The 'Fair Start Scotland' program is its only visible face—a government contract delivery mechanism. The 1,982 monthly visits aren't job seekers; they're likely legacy users or compliance officers checking links. This isn't a growth strategy; it's a digital holding pattern.
The SEO Paradox
Here's the data irony: 350 monthly searches for 'remploy'—a brand with zero active marketing. Yet, the top organic keywords are generic: 'transferable' (4,630 volume) and 'how to get a job with no experience' (2,050 volume). This suggests the site is a passive beneficiary of UK job search traffic, not an active player. It's SEO by accident, not design.
The tech stack reveals the story: jQuery, Bootstrap, and Cloudflare. It's a legacy stack for a legacy brand. No modern frameworks, no progressive web app features that would help the disabled community it serves. The Facebook link leads to a regional page (Tayside), not a national hub. This isn't a digital transformation; it's digital stagnation.
- Brand Limbo: Remploy exists as a name, but all services live on maximusuk.co.uk—a classic corporate absorption.
- Trust Deficit: A 2.2/5 Trustpilot score from 8 reviews signals deep dissatisfaction, likely from the very people it's meant to help.
- Traffic Black Hole: 100% of traffic is 'undefined' country—likely UK, but analytics are misconfigured, hiding its true reach.
The Zombie Brand Strategy
Remploy isn't dead—it's undead. A revenue-generating asset kept on life support by a parent company that doesn't need to market it. For investors, it's a lesson in contractual cash flow over brand equity. For founders, it's a warning: if you don't own your digital destiny, you become a ghost in someone else's machine.

One advisor who started working with me…
One advisor who started working with me went awol. I had communications to schedule appointments through email. Then appointment times constantly missed by up to 5 hours. Promised a pathway into gaining employment. Never delivered on their promises. Absolutely horrendous service. Is there a complaints procedure?
Started off well
Started off well, but the person i was allocated kept being ill and never made the appointments. I suspect she had mental health difficulties. She never made up the calls and after many months I'd only ever had two substantive calls. Months later I was told I was transferred to a different person. I didn't hear from them for a month. They then called, started sharing my personal details expecting me to be fine with opening up to a complete stranger, when it was clear I would speak to them a maximum of three times before it finishing. They say they offer support for a year - this is not my experience
Negative experience
Was transferred to Remploy through jobcentre. I was told they would help with my boots for work and payment would be in my account by end of day. Still waiting after 3 weeks. Was told payment bounced back because of wrong details which is not true. Not good experience with these.
more meetings, less help when I needed it most
Being made redundant from the host company I was with for many years traumatised me for some time. As a result I had no help or support in finding any work whatosever from Remploy. I ended up using another company but they proved unsucessful too, I did most of the work while they spent hours on end in meetings, they even complained that I was e mailing them all the time or leaving text messages, well who else could I ask if I needed help or advice about my job hunting??I then e mailed them to say they were no longer needed. I kept job hunting for another 2 years or so but sadly no employment opportunties came my way, in the end I took retirement, it was the best thing I ever did. Remploy say they put ability first which is true for the thousands who want to work, but no so for the advisers. Get your act together Remploy and start putting your abilities first instead of last!!
Wish I could zero starts
Wish I could zero starts. Had a few people when they were open in Bristol see me one did care. Worst was an idiot from South Africa called Rodeny. He didn't care about my sleep issues or my ASD asked him for help but he just blanked me and just typed on his pc. Never even spoke to me. Had a go at me for having the hiccups once. Even had the cherk to say I wasn't that bothered to find work. Well obviously you were not bothered about helping people find work.
