The Miles-First Travel Paradox
A $50M revenue company betting on rewards over experience
Rocketmiles isn't selling hotel rooms—it's selling miles. In a travel landscape obsessed with direct bookings and loyalty, this 183-person company has built a $49.8M business by weaponizing the psychology of points collectors. But with a 1.2-star Trustpilot rating, the question isn't about their model—it's about their survival.
"They're not competing with hotels—they're competing with the dopamine hit of seeing your mileage balance tick upward."
The Reward-First Architecture
Rocketmiles operates on a simple but powerful premise: optimize every hotel booking for miles earned, not experience delivered. Their search interface prioritizes reward multipliers over location ratings. This isn't a bug—it's the entire business model. By redirecting 52.8% of traffic from undefined sources (likely affiliate partnerships and direct brand searches), they've created a closed-loop system where the product is the currency, not the stay.
The Traffic Paradox
Here's the contradiction that defines Rocketmiles: 58% direct traffic suggests strong brand recognition, yet 28,878 monthly visits feels microscopic for a $50M revenue business. The math reveals their secret—each visitor must be worth significantly more than industry average. With 'rocketmiles' generating 1,930 monthly searches and 'rocektmiles' (a misspelling) pulling 100 searches, they've captured the intent of hardcore mileage collectors. These aren't casual travelers; they're points strategists who know exactly what they want.
The tech stack tells a story of scale versus sophistication. Tailwind CSS and Bootstrap suggest rapid frontend development. Cloudflare for protection. OneTrust for privacy compliance. Google Analytics and Tealium for tracking. This is a lean operation—183 employees generating nearly $50M in revenue means approximately $273K per employee. The efficiency is remarkable, but efficiency often comes at the cost of customer experience.
- Direct traffic dominance (58%) indicates strong brand recall among mileage collectors
- The 1.2-star Trustpilot rating across 404 reviews suggests systemic fulfillment issues
- Revenue-per-employee ratio ($273K) reveals a highly leveraged business model
- Misspelled keyword 'rocektmiles' still drives 100 monthly searches—true brand penetration
The Mileage Trap
A high-revenue, low-satisfaction business model that's either brilliant or doomed

Poor service and misleading handling of reservations
I had two October bookings at Ibis London Wembley Hotel via Rocketmiles: • Reservation 1 - 885760306 (20.10 – 22.10): Canceled and refunded without my approval, even though I had agreed to be moved to Styles Ealing only if both bookings were transferred there. Instead, I received an email claiming I had requested the cancellation, which was not true. • Reservation 2 - 871526282 (22.10 – 24.10): Moved to Styles Ealing London, which I accepted under the condition above—yet Rocketmiles failed to apply the same solution to the earlier booking. A property under renovation should not have been offered for booking at all. Accepting reservations and later canceling them due to internal issues is unprofessional and misleading. Issuing a refund is not a full resolution. A responsible travel service should have secured an equivalent or better alternative at no extra cost and honored the customer’s clear request. I have been a long time customer of Rocketmiles and this experience raises serious concerns about reliability and accountability, and makes me now very hesitant about using Rocketmiles again.
Refusal to Price Match their own site - but they rebooked!
We booked in Vancouver, many months ahead. The price later dropped by almost $100 for the stay. When I called to request a match - it was refused. However, when we got to the hotel, we saw the booking was amended to the hotel (with the new lower mileage) and rebooked at their own lower rate. Basically, Rocket put it in their Pocket! Shady business!
Terrible company! Don’t book through them
I booked a hotel through Rocket Travel Hotels in October 2025 and when I turned up, no booking had been made. Instead, Rocket Travel had incorrectly booked a different accommodation that was poor quality and bore no resemblance to the accommodation I had booked. Trying to get help from their customer service was also incredibly frustrating. When I arrived at the hotel and found no booking, it took over 24 hours for Rocket Travel to respond. They have no live chat support and no easily accessible UK contact number. When I eventually received a number via email, the automated phone system instructed me to “enter your booking ID followed by the pound symbol” — but there is no pound symbol on a phone keypad, only a hash (#) or star (*). It felt deliberately designed to make speaking to someone impossible. Their email responses were confusing and uncoordinated. I received duplicate emails that asked for information I had already provided and emails that contradicted each other. Overall, a terrible experience from start to finish — poor service, lack of accountability, and virtually no customer support when things go wrong.
They're liars
They're liars, they're thieves. They take your miles and never give it back to you.
If there were negative stars they would get them all
If there were negative stars, Rocketmiles would definitely get them. Very fast with taking your money, very sloppy and slow with everything else plus a customer service that is good for absolutely nothing
