I Joined SDFCU and we live in Romania. I have had very fast responses from them. I needed to make my account a joint account and they did it in 2 days. I need a physical card in Romania and I got it in less than 2 weeks. I was concerned by the low star rating but perhaps they have fixed the bad service? My service was exceptional.

Been with SDFCU for nearly two years. Have opened multiple accounts and loans with them, and have almost always found them to be customer oriented, professional, and well trained for their position.

Matt at SDFCU provided excellent customer service to me- a new member- with prompt, clear, and friendly service regarding new account product features. It is comforting to get off on the right track with a financial service company and Matt did a great job in that regard.
Failures in the Loan Servicing Department
I closed my HELOC account in June 2026. Preparing to sell my Arlington VA property, which is now under contract, I learned last week that SDFCU had not recorded a Certificate of Satisfaction for the HELOC with the county, though SDFCU has three months to complete this legally required action. I contacted the Loan Servicing Department right away, and the agent apologized for "the slight oversight." The agent said they would prepare the document for notary and trustee signature, but this problem is not yet resolved; the COS document has not yet been recorded with the County, and this could cause a delay to our sale closing next week. No SDFCU management member has followed-up with me, despite multiple emails to SDFCU.org and calls to Member Svcs. The Loan Service agent has not been fully forthcoming in this matter either. The first document they sent out had mistakes. The corrected document has not yet been received by SDFCU's third-party processor, and the agent cannot assure me it will be recorded on time.
Applied for a new joint checking…
Applied for a new joint checking account. Was declined because they said they couldn't verify identity. After many phone calls, was unable to get hold of anyone who could help us find out where the problem was. Following long wait times on the phone, was finally told that once declined, there is no remedy and it can't be fixed. Also told that once declined, you have to wait 6 months to reapply. Since we don't know what the problem is, don't know how anything will change. Terrible customer service and extremely bureaucratic. Will take my business elsewhere, for sure!
