SourceAudio: The Music Industry's Backend OS
How a 26-person team built the invisible infrastructure for music licensing and distribution
While Spotify and Apple Music dominate the consumer front-end, SourceAudio quietly powers the B2B music pipeline for labels, publishers, and broadcasters. They've built the plumbing that moves music metadata, rights, and assets behind the scenes.
"SourceAudio isn't selling music—it's selling the infrastructure that makes music businesses work."
The Niche Powerhouse
With just 26 employees generating $3.5M in revenue, SourceAudio operates at impressive efficiency. Their traffic mix (56% direct, 30% organic) reveals a loyal, returning user base—likely industry professionals who've made SourceAudio their daily workflow tool. This isn't a consumer app; it's a professional utility with sticky usage patterns.
The SEO Moat
354,000 backlinks for a niche B2B platform is extraordinary. The keywords reveal their strategy: 'calasis me' and 'gothic storm music' suggest they're capturing long-tail catalog searches. They've built an SEO fortress around specific music metadata queries that competitors can't easily replicate.
The platform's tech stack (jQuery, Tailwind, Bootstrap) suggests a pragmatic, product-first approach rather than chasing cutting-edge frameworks. They're not a flashy startup—they're a utility company that happens to be in music. The 2.4/5 Trustpilot rating from 6 reviews hints at the classic B2B software challenge: complex integrations that frustrate during onboarding but deliver value once embedded.
- AI-powered search and metadata tools as their differentiator
- Direct traffic dominance (56%) indicates strong brand recognition
- Niche keyword capture strategy (200+ monthly volume for hyper-specific terms)
- LinkedIn presence signals B2B networking and recruitment focus
The Unsung Infrastructure Play
While music streaming battles grab headlines, SourceAudio wins by owning the unsexy backend that labels and publishers can't function without. Their 26-person team has built a moat around metadata management that's harder to displace than any consumer app.

Great company, mediocre apps
I bought a C4 synth pedal. This pedal really only does its 'thing' if you use their app. In order to use their app properly you have to log in with a username and password that you can only get by registering via the app. The problem is that you can only create an account via the mobile app, and not from the desktop app, even though the desktop app has a choice to 'create account'. Really confusing. Source Audio did however respond via e-mail and did help me get things going. Their customer service was better than most other companies. I just can't give 5 stars due to the poor experience with their app.
I'm a paying customer and I get ignored
I'm a paying customer. Several thousands per year. Only their technical support is great. I've been waiting for their SourceAudio Collect team to enable this option for more than six months now. On top of that, I was billed an additional 150$ for temporarily uploading an extra track to the system, which made me reach another "tier". I deleted it immediately and asked for a refund. They ignored me. Their support redirected me to their financial director who ignored all my emails. I've also tried to enable their subscription system (which should generate them some revenues) and I've also been ignored. It's simply beyond me. How can a company ignore new revenues? It's not like I'm a micro-company either, we are the world reference in our domain.
I had 2 claims on my songs by this…
I had 2 claims against 2 songs of mine by this company on YouTube - so I counter claimed them & both were cleared - I own the masters so I have no idea how this company has any claim against my songs. I’m still unsure how they claimed on my songs no explanation was provided. Their website is overloaded with info & very hard to navigate. Customer service sucks - they don’t reply to basic questions via email. Still haven’t given any justification for their YouTube claim. Seem unprofessional.
Bait and switch
On the surface, the most effective metadata interface for long-term music storage. Yet, I waited almost five months for album delivery. This was through their upgraded DSP delivery service. My albums have been "Approved" (green indicator) for a month or more. Before that, I do not know why it took over three months to have my albums approved for delivery. Customer support usually responds when I contact them through the app. The problem is that I always get the same response: "There are some internal issues that make things go wrong." I'm not sold on the DSP service. Three months later I waited another quarter and contacted them. This time, they told me that I will need to sign up for their paid track hosting service to have my albums delivered. That's completely a bait and switch. A waste of almost a year (8 months). Do not waste your time, something is not right with these guys.
Too hard to use, Can't use ContentID
Signed up but too hard, I don't know how to use this services, really complicated. also email still no responses.
