Apartmentfinder.com: The Invisible Giant
How a 1999 relic survives on 1.5M visits with a 2.4-star rating and zero modern tech
Access Denied. That's literally what greets you at apartmentfinder.com—a 1999-era relic that somehow commands 1.5 million monthly visits while its front door is locked. This isn't a story about innovation; it's about the power of legacy SEO and the zombie traffic that keeps dinosaurs alive.
"A 2.4-star rating and 'Access Denied' aren't bugs—they're features of a business model that runs on search engine inertia."
The Traffic Paradox
With 1.5M monthly visits, apartmentfinder.com should be a thriving marketplace. Instead, it's a ghost ship with a 2.4/5 Trustpilot rating from just 10 reviews. The real story isn't in the traffic—it's in what happens after the click. When your front door says 'Access Denied,' you're not measuring conversion rates; you're measuring bounce rates. This is zombie traffic: alive in the data, dead in the experience.
SEO Time Capsule
The site ranks for 'apartment finder' (9,450 monthly searches) and absurdly for 'zip code' terms (83,210 monthly searches). This is classic keyword stuffing from an era when Google rewarded volume over intent. The backlink profile—397,525 links—reads like a 2005 SEO playbook: quantity over quality, legacy partnerships, and the inertia of old domain authority. In 2024, this isn't a strategy; it's a digital fossil.
The tech stack is literally just HSTS. One technology. Not a modern framework, not a responsive design pattern, not even a functional CMS. HSTS is a security header that forces HTTPS. That's it. The company has 89 employees and $22.3M in revenue, which suggests they're either brilliant at monetizing minimal traffic or this is a legacy cash cow being milked until it runs dry.
- Domain authority from 1999 is worth more than modern UX
- 60% of traffic comes from organic search—likely accidental clicks on outdated results
- 88% of traffic is 'undefined' country—possibly bot traffic or tracking failures
- Zero social presence, zero modern tech, zero visible product updates
The Zombie Empire
This isn't a business—it's a monument to the power of early internet SEO. For founders and investors, the lesson is brutal: domain authority from 1999 can outlast two decades of product innovation. The real question isn't how they're surviving; it's how long until Google's algorithm finally pulls the plug.

Huntley Ridge and The Wooten Company are great companies to work with!!!Awesome apartments!!Management and maintenance are very professional and reliable!!!
913 12th Avenue Prospect Park
913 12th Avenue is a house that rents out 1st Floor. I lived there for 11 months landlord turns around and decides not to rent anymore. He gave me notice by text (red flag right there). It’s a family with two toddlers and very noisy they live above. The wife has problems with tenants cooking with spices. They don’t tell you this when you apply. Too many rules for parking and sitting out on lounge chair in summer. I wouldn’t recommend this place. The owners are friendly but sneaky they kept my deposit when I left and I even had a clean place I respected their home. I only $975 instead of my $1150 deposit
They advertise for fraudsters
I used the Apartment Finder to find a home advertised. Oaks Landing in New Brighton MN. They took my down payment and application fee $250.00. Then ghosted me. I have email and call records that show how they took my calls until they had my money. After several attempts to contact Christy or Alex I had to drive 4 hours to the office, they told me more lies. Finally after several bad reviews they sent me a refund check not for the full amount- which bounced. They have several pending lawsuits for illegal behavior. Cheats and liars.

They do not post negative reviews by verified renters. They don't want to lose the money. Don't trust this app!

Axis 3700 Plano, Texas. My disabled mother requested a handicapped space and they offered her a reserved spot for an amount of money. I am asking them to make a reasonable accommodation and provide a handicapped space without any charges, but they are refusing to respond to my request. I’ve sent them numerous emails and wouldn’t respond to my inquiry. Of all the bad things about this place, this is the most despicable. UPDATE: They finally responded and outright refused to provide a reasonable accommodation. They should be ashamed of themselves!
