AskVet: The 1-Star Pet Care Revolution
Why a 1.5/5 Trustpilot score might be the most telling metric in pet tech
In the $100B+ pet care industry, AskVet is betting that convenience trumps perfection. With 32 employees and $3.7M in revenue, this app isn't just another telehealth platform—it's a case study in brutal market realities.
"The most honest metric in pet tech isn't revenue—it's the 69 reviews averaging 1.5 stars."
The Traffic Paradox
With only 6,974 monthly visits, AskVet operates at a fraction of its potential. Yet 49% direct traffic suggests a core user base that bypasses SEO entirely. This isn't a growth story—it's a retention puzzle. The app's 31% organic search share reveals they're not capturing new pet owners effectively, while their 'undefined' country targeting suggests either a global beta or a tracking blind spot.
The Trust Deficit
A 1.5/5 Trustpilot rating from 69 reviews is a screaming red flag. For context, industry leaders typically maintain 4+ stars. This isn't just bad—it's catastrophic for a subscription-based health service. The raw data suggests either: 1) Service delivery failures, 2) Pricing misalignment, or 3) A fundamental mismatch between promise and reality. The 69 reviews represent a vocal minority that could tank conversion rates.
The tech stack reveals a bootstrapped reality: jQuery and Bootstrap suggest legacy code, while Owl Carousel hints at a dated UI pattern. Cloudflare and reCAPTCHA are standard, but the absence of modern frameworks (React/Vue) and the lack of structured data points to a team prioritizing speed over sophistication. This isn't a tech-first company—it's a service company with an app layer.
- Revenue-to-employee ratio of $115K/person suggests high operational costs or low-margin services
- The 'login' subdomain (pom.askvet.app) hints at a white-label or partner infrastructure
- No funding data in a competitive space suggests either bootstrapped or struggling to raise
- Top keyword 'askvet' (200 monthly volume) shows weak brand penetration despite 49% direct traffic
AskVet is either a cautionary tale or a hidden gem
The 1.5-star rating screams failure, but $3.7M revenue with 32 employees suggests a sustainable niche. This isn't a venture-scale opportunity—it's a lifestyle business in a trillion-dollar industry. For investors: run. For founders: study their unit economics. For product people: ask why 69 angry users haven't killed the company.

Herbal treatment is 100% guarantee for HSV cure, the reason why most people are finding it difficult to cure HSV is that they believe in medical reports, drugs, and medical treatment which is not helpful to cure HSV. It's an okay website
Emotionally baits pet owners by saying you can speak to a vet 24/7. I went through the AI and it told me it will only be a $5 fee. It did not disclose I would have to pay a $65 monthly subscription. So after I went through and paid, I checked my bank account and saw they charged me 65$. I didn't freak out right away because when I saw that I can get a call on my phone from the vet maybe it'll be valuable advice but, low and behold I did not get a call at all or a response to chat messages. This really sucks because on weekends all the vet hospitals are closed and on top of that the emergency hospitals barely have any knowledge of exotic pets. I was in distressed and desperate to get an answer to help my hamster that is having a stroke and this website took advantage by billing me. If I can give this website zero stars I would. God is watching you. Update: (6 am eastern on September 21st the following day) I actually got a response at 4 am eastern from an expert but, I responded at the time because I have to wake up for work anyways. The expert gave me some good advice on what to do I'll give her that. She wasn't able to call me but, she supported me and was empathetic through text. I now update my review to 3 stars because, I still was billed 65 dollars unexpectedly. I would of been fine with it if I was warned about being billed this much. I would have used a different card.
Horrible scam with hidden subscription/impossible to cancel
Horrible scam! I was charged $55 per month and it was nearly impossible to cancel! In Jan. 2026, the FTC filed an enforcement action against parent company JustAnswer.com. DO NOT pay $5 for advice from an online chat vet! They’ll charge your cc $55-$79 per month without your consent! BEWARE!
The 65.00 monthly charge is hidden in…
The 65.00 monthly charge is hidden in the fine print. And on top of that, the vet told me to call a vet. Did not realize I was being taken for 5 + 65 =70.00. Enjoy it. No more and bad review.
AVOID! Misleading fees.
Do not use this “service “ if you are looking for urgent care for your pet. I was trying to locate a vet who could prescribe antibiotics for my pug’s UTI. The vet who did the chat consult couldn’t prescribe medication as the company isn’t licensed in WA state. I paid $70 for 5 minutes of chat.
