ChargePoint: The Networked EV Giant
Analyzing the traffic, tech, and trust of the charging network leader
ChargePoint doesn't just sell chargers; they sell access to a network. But with a user rating of 1.3/5 and massive infrastructure funding, the disconnect between ambition and customer satisfaction has never been starker.
"They have the hardware footprint, but the software experience is fracturing user trust."
The Traffic Monopoly
ChargePoint commands serious search volume. 'ChargePoint' alone generates 26,550 monthly searches, dwarfing competitors. With 55% direct traffic, it's clear they have top-of-funnel dominance. However, a 36% organic share suggests they are still heavily reliant on brand awareness rather than discoverability for new charging solutions.
The User Experience Gap
Despite 469,512 monthly visitors and a robust tech stack including Tailwind CSS and modern frameworks, the Trustpilot rating of 1.3/5 based on 282 reviews is a critical warning signal. For a hardware-enabled software company, this indicates a severe disconnect between the app experience and the physical charging reality.
The company's tech stack reveals a modern frontend (Tailwind, Bootstrap, Swiper) but the backend reliability seems to be the bottleneck. The traffic data shows a massive 'undefined' region (77.6%), suggesting either tracking issues or a highly fragmented global footprint that obscures their true market concentration.
- Dominant brand search volume (26k+ monthly)
- High direct traffic indicates strong B2B partnerships
- Low Trustpilot score signals software reliability issues
- Heavy reliance on jQuery suggests legacy tech debt in specific portals
The Network Effect is Real, but Fragile
ChargePoint has the capital and the footprint to win, but the user experience is bleeding trust.

I love to charge at Chargepoint
I find that all the bad reviews have the same horrible grammars. Ngl I think they are bots. I've only had great experiences with Chargepoint. Then again...I have never had to contact them, so idk about their customer service. Their stations simply just works. I also love their app and ease of use.
Hello William Ly, Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you’ve had such a smooth time using our stations and app. It’s great to know the ease of use has made charging convenient for you. While we always strive to make sure customers don’t need to reach out to support, we’re here and ready to help anytime you do. Your feedback means a lot and motivates us to keep improving.
My car did not charge and it still cost $50
My car did not charge- I was charged $50 and I could not get the charger out of the port. It pu a terrible strain on our whole next few days
Terrible charging experience at ChargePoint stations
Terrible charging experience at ChargePoint stations in northern San Jose, CA. ChargePoint will assign you a station to charge - and when you get to the station assigned by the ChargePoint app, very often you would not be able to charge - sometimes you would find the station broken, sometimes the station would say the it is already in use. Sad to see ChargePoint has gone so bad in reliability.
Avoid, avoid, avoid...
Worst car chargers I've ever used (and there have been some stinkers) - contactless broken. App initially didn't work then overcharged me, triggering a fraud alert from my bank. Unsurprising to see a bank of 16 chargers (in a busy car park) completely empty - just a waste of space. Avoid this company at all costs.
They charge you for nothing
Got my first EV and didn't realize chargepoint fast charging stations are not compatible with my car without an adapter. I couldn't even plug it onto my car and I cancelled the transaction but they still charged me 50$ and now the next day they still have not returned the money that should not have been taken in the first place. 1 star because 0 is not an option!
