FirstVet: The Telehealth Vet That's Winning
How a digital clinic scaled to 272K monthly visits with a 3-star rating
While the vet industry remains stubbornly physical, FirstVet has quietly built a 272K monthly visit empire by digitizing the waiting room. Their model proves that even the most emotional consumer vertical can be disrupted by convenience-first tech.
"FirstVet didn't reinvent veterinary medicine—they just made it 10x easier to access."
The Growth Engine
With 53% of traffic coming organically, FirstVet has mastered SEO for pet health emergencies. Their keyword strategy reveals a smart focus on high-intent, problem-based queries like 'cost of visit to vet for dog' and 'can fleas cause ear infections'—capturing worried owners at the exact moment they need help. The 2M+ backlinks suggest they've become a trusted resource, not just a service.
The Trust Paradox
Here's the provocative data: 7,442 Trustpilot reviews averaging 3/5 stars. For a digital health service, this is surprisingly mediocre. Yet traffic remains strong. This suggests FirstVet has cracked the 'convenience over perfection' equation—pet owners will accept a 3-star experience if it means avoiding a 30-minute drive to an emergency clinic at 11 PM.
The geographic data is telling: 'undefined' traffic dominates at 45.1%, followed by other undefined regions. This likely indicates either tracking issues or a truly global, decentralized user base—both of which suggest the model scales beyond borders. With 204 employees and $15M revenue, they're generating ~$73K per employee, a healthy ratio for a digital-first service.
- Tech stack is modern but conservative: Tailwind, Vite, PWA—built for speed and reliability over flashiness
- Direct traffic (35%) is unusually high for a digital service, indicating strong brand recall and repeat usage
- The 'undefined' country data is either a tracking blindspot or proof of borderless demand
The Unsexy Winner
FirstVet proves that in pet care, convenience beats clinical perfection every time. Their 3-star rating isn't a bug—it's a feature of a model built for speed over luxury.

Great service for pet owners
I love this service. It is included with my pet insurance. I’ve only had to use it twice but both times have been excellent. Tech works well, good advice from vet and follow up. So convenient and easy especially for my cat who doesn’t like getting in his carrier for trips to the vet if we can avoid it.
Great Service!
So impressed! The vet was very knowledgeable, we felt reassured and it was a quick and easy call, highly recommended!
An all-in-one app for 24/7 pet care
We have access to FirstVet via our pet insurance (with Many Pets). We've used the service twice now and have been very satisfied both times. The concept is great - by speaking with the video vet we've avoided two unnecessary in-person vets appointments, which A) we'd have had to pay for, B) would have caused the cats distress, and C) would have taken over an hour and a half out of both of our days (we always attend vets appointments together). With FirstVet, we only need one of us to take the appointment and the cats are comfortable in their own home. We've actually spoken with the same lady both times (Dr. Malu) and she is wonderful. She is thorough and does a great job of reassuring us. She asks a range of questions and patiently listens to everything you have to say. She then does a visual check of the cat in question and is again very patient when you're wrangling the cat into position. I particularly like that everything is kept within the single app. All of your pet records, appointment notes, advice and recommendations etc. Appointments are generally available within half an hour of opening the app, but it's completely your choice as to which vet you see and at what time suits you. It makes for a really slick experience that also doubles up as a dated record of events that you can share with your actual vet if needed. FirstVet was the added value service on my insurance that I didn't know I needed. I now wouldn't take out another policy that didn't include access. It feels like an excellent safety net that I can keep in my back pocket. Highly recommend.
Great Service
Had an appointment with Dr Louise Cox-O’Shea, as our dog had a small lump. The information and advice given was helpful and gave us a clear idea, of what we need to do. This is a great service and we will use again, if required. Wonderful
Excellent experience overall
Excellent experience overall. Received this service as part of my insurance. My pup was ill yesterday, vomiting and not able to defacate. Was quite worried, thought I'd give this a go as an alternative to rushing to the vets. In my experience, the app doesn't send a pin code through unless you are off wifi and on your phone network, so if you have trouble activating the app try turning off wifi first. As I had issues, it was a phone call rather than a video call. The Vet (Emma) phoned me on time and went through several questions and gave great advice which helped my pup immediately. I'm very thankful for such a good service and the advice given being spot on even without the need for video.
