FoodMarble: The Quantified Gut
How a 38-person team built a $4.3M business diagnosing digestive issues at home
For 1 in 7 people with IBS, every meal is a guessing game. FoodMarble turned that guesswork into data, selling a $200 breath analyzer that maps your personal digestive fingerprint. It's not just a device—it's a subscription-free alternative to expensive, inaccessible breath tests.
"They're not selling hardware—they're selling the elimination of uncertainty for chronic gut sufferers."
The IBS/SIBO Gap They Exploit
Traditional SIBO testing costs $300-$500 and requires a doctor's visit. FoodMarble's AIRE 2 device performs the same hydrogen/methane breath analysis at home for a one-time purchase. Their 84,530 monthly searches for 'SIBO' reveal a massive, underserved market desperate for accessible diagnostics. They own the 'air' (AIRE) of breath testing.
The Growth Engine: SEO & Community
With 48% organic traffic, FoodMarble dominates niche health search. Their keyword strategy targets both branded terms ('food marble' - 940/mo) and condition-based searches ('SIBO' - 84.5K/mo). The 649 Trustpilot reviews act as a powerful conversion engine, with a 4.4-star rating that validates the device's clinical claims without FDA approval (it's a wellness device, not a diagnostic tool).
The company's 38-person lean team generates $4.3M in revenue—approximately $113K per employee. This efficiency is possible because they sell a physical product with high margins and minimal ongoing support costs. Their social presence across Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram creates a feedback loop where user testimonials fuel both marketing and product development.
- Direct-to-consumer model bypasses healthcare gatekeepers entirely
- Trustpilot reviews serve as social proof for a medical-adjacent product
- Breath testing tech repurposed from clinical settings to consumer wellness
- No subscription fees—pure hardware sales with optional food logging app
The Quantified Gut is Just the Beginning
FoodMarble proves that chronic condition management can be productized. Their next move will likely be data licensing or AI-powered dietary recommendations—turning 70K monthly users into a predictive health database.

Customer Service is Outstanding Live Agent Personalized Help
I encountered a technical problem. Called the Customer Help Line and was assisted by Luna. She patiently walked us through troubleshooting and resolving the problem. She went above and beyond to make sure I could get the challenge test done. Appreciate her patience and guidance. Especially that I was able to complete the test as I had prep for it. Appreciate the assistance by live agents vs AI or bots. Luna is a superstar!

She took her time with me. We did step by step. I had a little trouble on my end and she walk me through it.
The device/app to get to monitor dysbiosis (SIBO, IMO etc)
I have to say that this is *the* device to get for intolerances and dysbiosis such as SIBO, IMO etc - I had both! (to be clear I'm not advocating it for diagnosis but rather for monitoring. If in doubt, get a medical/scientific breath test and see a gastroenterologist that recognises SIBO and said breath tests). The device saved my sanity after many years of suffering and deterioration and assisted me to treat myself and change my diet to low(er) FODMAP and thereby reduce my symptoms. I am much better in large part because of this product. The app is OK. It does do some things well (device to app integration is good and responsive) and it does allow you to track and see a historical view. But it is... clunky and a bit confusing! They could definitely do with a better UX experience (by that I don't mean bells and whistles but the opposite - simplification). I know of no other device/app pair alternative for the European market (Trio Smart in the US) so in light of that I realise that FoodMarble are breaking new territory. And it's absolutely useful. Some constructive feedback on making the experience even better: * Top 1 feature request: that I can export my food, symptoms and breath tests * Top 2 feature request: I am IT savvy and can run correlation and AI/machine learning algorithms on food, symptoms and breath tests for regression. So I can identify likely food triggers and try elimination. However. There is zero reason for why this functionality couldn't exist in the app (ideally on-device). I realise that this may have legal/regulatory complications but perhaps disclaimers and elimination test guidance could help * New device support (Aire 3+?) for H2S would be great. I *do* suspect that this was a part of my problem too due to symptoms * Logging food is genuinely tricky and confusing. I do like the way you can create "meals" but the experience quickly gets *very* cluttered with lots of swiping etc. Simplifying this would help a lot * (Much) larger food database that in particular contains more gluten-free/"free from" etc products would help me a *lot* (don't get me wrong, it's still better than the Monash one but it's nowhere near myfitnesspal) * Reporting new foods is a genuinely poor experience. The image "OCR" thing just doesn't work - at all. And there's not indication that the backend creates those new meal entries. So you end up reporting food with no nutritional information (including calories) included. With today's AI tools this can - and should - be a *much* better experience. Crowdsourced data where multiple people take pictures of the same thing seems to me the most pragmatic approach. I would happily partake. I did start logging foods but when it became apparent that the info appeared to go "nowhere" I stopped

Great tool for gut health awareness
My FoodMarble Aire 2 is easy to use, compact, and gives helpful insights into how different foods affect my digestion. The real-time hydrogen and methane readings make it much easier to spot patterns and triggers. A great companion for anyone dealing with bloating or digestive issues and wanting more control over their gut health. Furthermore, the support team is excellent at handling anything, super positive and highly recommended!! 👏 👍
