GOG.com: The DRM-Free Rebellion
How 833 employees built a $235M fortress for gamers against the industry's dominant trend
In an industry dominated by always-online platforms and subscription models, GOG.com stands as a defiant relic of the old world. With 11.8M monthly visits and a fiercely loyal community, they're not just selling games—they're selling ownership.
"GOG isn't just competing with Steam—they're building an ethical alternative in an industry that's increasingly abandoning ownership."
The Cult of DRM-Free
GOG's 833 employees serve a community that's grown to 11.8M monthly visitors. What's remarkable is the traffic breakdown: 63% direct traffic vs. 30% organic. This isn't a platform people stumble upon—it's a destination they seek out. The 4.6/5 Trustpilot rating from 3,710 reviews reveals a fanbase that doesn't just use GOG—they evangelize it.
The Anti-Subscription Playbook
While competitors chase the subscription model, GOG's revenue model is refreshingly simple: buy once, own forever. Their 9.4M backlinks and top keywords like 'gog games' (124K monthly searches) show they're winning the discoverability game. The real power move? Their direct traffic (63%) dwarfs organic search (30%)—a testament to brand loyalty that money can't buy.
The tech stack tells a story of modernization without reinvention. They're using Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, and Vite for frontend development, Google Analytics for insights, and Cookiebot for privacy compliance. It's a pragmatic stack that balances performance with the unique demands of a digital storefront serving global gamers.
- 833 employees generating $235.6M in revenue = ~$283K revenue per employee
- 63% direct traffic indicates exceptional brand loyalty
- 9.4M backlinks show strong SEO authority despite being a niche platform
- Top keyword 'stalker gamma' (108K searches) reveals their strength in retro gaming communities
The Last Stand for Game Ownership
In an era of rented games and disappearing licenses, GOG's model isn't just sustainable—it's essential for the future of digital entertainment.

Falran really came through for me despite my issue being entirely my own fault. Courteous, knowledgeable and professional. Good to know there's someone that can help with these issues.
Great service
Falran was great. Easy refund on product that didn’t work on my system.
Excellent customer service!
Had an issue with my game but customer service, Falran in particular, was super helpful!

The support I received from Falran was way above what I‘m used to for customer support from other companies. He really took a lot of time to understand the issue and come up with potential solutions. Really appreciated!
Fixed a DLC issue that was ongoing
There was an issue with the soundtrack DLC for UFO ROBOT GRENDIZER – The Feast of the Wolves, and I got in touch with GOG support about it. Falka said they notified the product team about it, and I've waited for some time. I checked on December 11 and saw that the incorrect download was removed, but the soundtrack was still unavailable, so I was admittedly worried. Thankfully, another GOG support staff member named Falran got back to me yesterday to let me know that the problem had been resolved, and the soundtrack can be downloaded. Very grateful that the problem was fixed.
