HP.com: The 63 Billion Dollar Dinosaur
How HP dominates search while failing its customers
HP.com is a search engine behemoth trapped in a body bag of legacy hardware. With 56M monthly visits and a $63B revenue machine, it's a masterclass in capturing intent—and a cautionary tale of what happens when you stop innovating.
"HP doesn't win on product excellence—it wins because you're forced to search 'hp drivers' after your printer stops working."
The Search Moat
HP's traffic is pure intent capture. 'hp' (822K searches), 'hp instant ink' (137K), and 'hp drivers' (82K) aren't brand queries—they're support desperation signals. This is a company that monetizes friction, not delight. They've built a fortress on the backs of confused customers trying to make their hardware function.
The Trust Paradox
8,918 Trustpilot reviews at 1.2 stars is a statistical improbability for a company this size. It's not a bug—it's a business model. The gap between HP's $63B revenue and customer satisfaction reveals a captive market. When you own the corporate procurement pipeline and the 'only option' for enterprise laptops, NPS becomes irrelevant.
The tech stack tells the story of a company that moved fast and broke nothing: Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, and Ant Design fighting for dominance. Swiper for carousels. AWS for scale. It's a Frankenstein's monster of frontend frameworks—evidence of 20+ years of digital transformation without a unified vision. Meanwhile, their 217K employees generate more code than clarity.
- 50M+ backlinks = SEO dominance through sheer age and scale
- 40% direct traffic = brand recognition that no startup can buy
- HP Instant Ink is a subscription trap masquerading as convenience
- Support is a labyrinth designed to upsell you on warranties
HP.com is a zombie that prints cash
For founders: Build products people love. For investors: HP's moat is bureaucracy, not brilliance. The 1.2-star rating is their real product roadmap.

HP shame on you. No customer service
Oh, wow! It is ridiculous how I can not get tech support by telephone in person for any of my HP devices. Zero help. except self help. If I could solve i ton my own why would I need tech support? Will never buy HP again. Ever. Will let everyone I know, know my experience.
HP Printer Support is BS
Recurring service to provide toner is useless if the printer does not work. I repeatedly contacted them to resolve the issue but their AI support never assisted me and their helpdesk never reached out to resolve.
Providing a service for the lonely
If you're alone, bored and looking for a lengthy chat with anyone to stave off chatting to your cat, get onto "HP Customer Service" and pretend you have printer issues. You'll engage with multiple 'experts" from various countries none of whom will finish your query, others will come into the chat and ask you questions you've already answered but ultimately after hours you'll be no further forward. Fantastic service for the lonely, utterly appalling if you really do have printer issues.
