Jet.com: The Ghost in the E-Commerce Machine
Why Walmart's $3B acquisition is now a silent revenue engine
Jet.com doesn't exist anymore. Not really. It redirects to Walmart.com, yet the backend still generates $697.9M annually. This isn't a failed startup—it's a ghost ship, powered by Walmart's infrastructure, quietly processing transactions while its brand identity dissolves into the parent company's monolith.
"Jet.com is Walmart's most expensive experiment—a $3B acquisition that now exists only as a redirect and a revenue line item."
The Acquisition That Changed Everything
In 2016, Walmart paid $3 billion for Jet.com in a move that shocked Wall Street. The promise was a tech-first, dynamic pricing engine that could compete with Amazon. The reality? By 2020, Jet.com's traffic had cratered. Today, it receives just 7,052 monthly visits—less than a mid-sized blog. Yet the revenue persists, suggesting Walmart kept the backend algorithms and supply chain integrations while killing the consumer-facing brand.
The Identity Crisis
Search 'jet.com' and you'll find a redirect. Search 'jet .com' (with a space) and you'll find 1,170 monthly queries from confused users who don't know the site is dead. The top keyword isn't 'cheap electronics' or 'discount groceries'—it's 'jet .com' itself. This is a brand that exists in memory, not in practice. Walmart has cannibalized its own acquisition, turning a once-promising challenger into a zombie domain.
The tech stack tells the story of abandonment. Jet.com runs on Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, and Ant Design—frontend frameworks that suggest minimal investment in recent years. There's no modern JavaScript framework like React or Vue. No sophisticated personalization engine visible to users. The site is a static shell, a digital monument to a failed pivot.
- Revenue persists ($697.9M) but traffic is microscopic (7,052 visits)
- Brand identity completely erased—redirects to Walmart.com
- Trustpilot rating of 2.2/5 indicates customer satisfaction collapse
- Top keywords are 'jet.com' itself, not product searches
The Ghost That Prints Money
Jet.com proves that sometimes the best exit is absorption, not independence. Walmart didn't buy a brand—it bought technology, and quietly buried the name.

Careful about Jet showing things in stock when they're not
Careful. Jet might confirm your order and charge your card before checking to see if the product is on stock even though online shows in-stock. I ordered an item and was charged on my card. But then a week later, they reported the item was not in stock.
My booking reference number
Good morning I sent a review yesterday and had a message back from Jet2 requiring my booking reference which was for a recent visit to the Fariones Suit appointments Lanzarote for 10 nights. My booking reference number is 13923236/ /324H . Hope this helps with your queries. Michael Phythian.
