Kaspersky: The Cybersecurity Giant in the Shadows
How a Russian-born security firm navigates geopolitics, 11M monthly visitors, and a 2/5 Trustpilot rating.
In the high-stakes world of cybersecurity, Kaspersky isn't just a tool—it's a geopolitical lightning rod. With 11.7 million monthly visitors and a legacy spanning decades, the domain kaspersky.com represents one of the most complex narratives in tech: a global leader in threat detection battling Western bans and consumer skepticism.
"Kaspersky proves that in cybersecurity, technical excellence and geopolitical reality are often at war with each other—and the user pays the price."
The Trust Paradox
Despite being a household name with 4,404 employees and $1.26B in revenue, Kaspersky faces a brutal trust deficit. Their Trustpilot rating sits at a dismal 2/5 from 141 reviews—a stark contrast to their technical capabilities. This isn't just about product quality; it's about perception. When governments ban your software, consumers hesitate. Yet, the data shows 60% of traffic comes directly to kaspersky.com, suggesting a loyal core user base that actively seeks them out, bypassing search engines entirely.
Traffic Geography Mystery
Here's what's fascinating: 33.2% of traffic comes from an 'undefined' country—the largest share by far. This likely represents VPN users or regions where analytics tracking is restricted, painting a picture of a user base operating in the shadows. The next four countries combined (7.4% + 4% + 3.3% + 3.2%) barely match the 'undefined' segment. This suggests Kaspersky's true stronghold isn't in traditional Western markets, but in regions where digital privacy tools are essential—and where Western alternatives are either unavailable or distrusted.
The tech stack reveals a modern, security-conscious architecture: Next.js for performance, Vite for fast development, and Bootstrap for responsive design. But the inclusion of Cookiebot is telling—Kaspersky, a privacy company, is still navigating the cookie consent minefield like everyone else. Their 36 million backlinks suggest massive SEO authority, yet organic search only drives 31% of traffic. This isn't a company that relies on Google rankings; it's a brand that users type directly into their browsers.
- Direct Traffic Dominance: 60% of visitors bypass search engines entirely—loyalty or necessity?
- The 'Undefined' Market: 33.2% of traffic from unidentifiable regions hints at VPN-heavy usage.
- Search Intent is Brand-Driven: 'Kaspersky' alone commands 513K monthly searches, dwarfing competitors.
- Trustpilot Disconnect: 2/5 rating vs. $1.26B revenue—users buy despite the noise.
The Unbannable Brand
Kaspersky survives not because of governments, but despite them. Their 11M monthly visitors prove that in cybersecurity, fear of threats often outweighs fear of geopolitics.

Had been using Kaspersky
Had been using Kaspersky for many years. It worked fine and nothing more. But later I started using other vendor solution and got much negative experience. Now I realize that Kaspersky Internet Security was perfect. Simple working is great. All works as it should to be. Minimum of false alarms, top performance, easy manage and tune exclusions. At the end of current subscription I'll return to Midori Kuma.
Great Antivirus, but the extra bloat is a turn-off
Kaspersky Antivirus used to be a solid 5/5 for me, but I’m giving it 4 stars now because they’ve discontinued the standalone antivirus. Now they only sell these "plans" with a bunch of extra stuff I don’t need. Even the cheapest plan comes with things like disk cleaners and optimization tools. I just want a good antivirus, not a bunch of bloat. Kaspersky is still the best antivirus out there, but if I could get the old version without all the extras, I’d gladly pay a bit more for that.
I lost all my personal data because of…
I lost all my personal data because of Kaspersky Password Manager After renewing my subscription through the official app, the system created a brand-new empty vault. My original vault with 400+ logins, documents, and notes became inaccessible. Support gave me useless generic answers and didn’t restore anything. No warning, no sync, no protection. This is not a password manager — it’s a data trap. Never again.
This company is horrible.
This company is horrible. There is nothing good about any of this software. Stay away from it, it's a waste of your money. It cannot recognize any application and will flag and block literally any app you download. The person who made this should just disappear and that would make the world a better place.
Not Responsive
Unfortunately this company does not respond to false positive submissions for websites. I have a client that has been on the "blacklist" in virus total for over a month now, and I've submitted twice, and never received a response. I did both through their form and have waited as to what I feel is an adequate amount of time. All other vendors (i say that Trustwave is the other nonresponsive vendor) have rescanned and whitelisted our site but without a full green check mark we are like fish out of the water. My client came to me to clean his site, move to a proper host, and I am sitting here trying to get this company to be accountable. Unfortunately if they aren't going to be responsive here I'm going to go to every kind of review platform that exists to showcase their lack of service.
