Natori: The $31M Empire Built on Quiet Luxury
How a 40-year-old brand dominates lingerie without chasing trends
Natori isn't chasing viral moments—it's building a $31.5M fortress in luxury lingerie while competitors burn cash on TikTok stunts. With 138 employees and 395K monthly visitors, they've mastered the art of selling $90 robes to women who value craftsmanship over hype.
"58% direct traffic proves Natori doesn't rent attention—they own it. Customers type 'natori.com' before Google even loads."
The High-Intent Audience
Their top keyword 'natori' alone drives 35K monthly searches—more than their entire category terms combined. This isn't discovery traffic; it's purchase-ready loyalty. Women aren't searching 'cheap lingerie'; they're hunting for 'natori bras' (3K searches/month) with credit cards in hand.
The Anti-Growth Strategy
While DTC brands chase 10x growth, Natori grows by refusing to dilute. Their 2.4/5 Trustpilot rating (13 reviews) reveals a critical insight: they're not optimizing for mass appeal. They're building a luxury moat where 'expensive' is a feature, not a bug. This is intentional scarcity in an age of infinite supply.
The tech stack tells a story of calculated modernization. They're running Tailwind CSS, GSAP for animations, and even PWA capabilities—signaling they haven't abandoned digital experience. But the real magic is in their hybrid approach: traditional luxury branding wrapped in conversion-optimized Shopify architecture.
- Premium pricing power: $1,180/month search volume for 'natori plush robe' signals willingness to pay luxury margins
- Omnichannel maturity: Social presence across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube while maintaining brand elevation
- Operational efficiency: 138 employees generating $228K revenue per head—healthy for luxury retail
The Unsexy Billion-Dollar Playbook
Natori proves that in a world obsessed with growth hacking, the real moat is four decades of trust, craftsmanship, and customers who type your URL directly into their browser.

Beware of Size
RE". Natori Bra: Wireless Bliss Perfection Style. Excellent bra but cup size is not accurate. Must purchase one cup size larger. The cup sizes listed are not true to size. Also ordering on Lingerie Living - they want to add an additional charge besides delivery charge - the made up charge: protection for delivery (fraudulent charge)
I expect more used to be about passion, now it is only about MONEY
I own a crazy number of Natori 2 piece pajama sets AND not for sleeping. I wear them for lounging, entertaining, gardening, to the beach, shopping, studying. Comfort is everything and I'm a bit of a homebody. So you might wonder why the 3 star rating? The fabrics are pretty damn good and washable. Nice against the skin, the polyester and the rayon hold up well, but it's everything else. The first 5 PJ tops all had the broken buttons. I don't know if they were machine sewn believe me I complained to NATORI why am I always changing buttons on new PJ's? The button holes, the mechanisms just are not functional. I kept wondering how they passed inspection to even get fabricated? Dumb tassels on the draw string pants that came off immediately in the wash. The mentality of this company is perplexing. They should be able to do pajamas in their sleep. They have their own factory in Taiwan so they shouldn't have these kinds of issues. I imagine an addiction to complication. Even pajama making ~ their bread and butter, if we can just stick to that for a moment. Instead of one line they have 3 that I know of. The JOSIE is the cheapest, arguably to appeal to college students like me. The last two PJ's I bought were from JOSIE and they sucked. Cute fabric, at least the picture was. In person cheap, thin, a crusty metallic surprise one had gold the other silver (not visible in pictures), which would have been fine if they had at the very least fabricated it right. The sizing was completely off. The arms were too narrow not balanced with the chest size. The pants split after one wear. Seriously? I expect their sizes first of all to be uniform across the board. They aren't! JOSIE sizes are smaller which is fine but this is what I mean about Natori making everything more complicated. Then they have their regular NATORI line, which they sell directly and thru different departments stores. The Natori line after how many years in business should have quality pajamas that last. Sometimes it makes sense to buy from the Natori site directly, but only when there is a sale because their shipping prices are not generous. Then they have a third tier available which is 5 times the price of the regular line. Why they don't just stick to making quality and charging a fair price whatever it is I don't understand. The JOSIE pieces I might as well just trash. I don't know why I hold on to them. It seems unfair to pass them on to someone else on Ebay. Big boob and stick arms anyone? Will rip soon. So yeah I'm annoyed because they should have ironed this stuff out. Some of the flowery polyester pieces are just lazy looks for the elderly. Bring on the dragons where is the passion sometimes it just feels like they don't care. This predictable overall unevenness. My recommendation is to make sure you can return. Try it on, try the buttons. Check the size chart. I recommend the underwear, if you haven't tried their cotton BLISS, great quality they have a bit of lace and look sexy even after washing. Don't be put off by the polyester or rayon fabrics of their pjs and caftans, etc, they wash well and breathe in a way that silk doesn't. It was my mistake not to return the last two JOSIE pj pairs I bought immediately. Be prepared to do that. You are doing them a favor, in the long run, by not accepting less than mediocre garments. They can do way better. When they are good they are very very good. Read the reviews, be wary of sales. Buy on sale. Return.
Frustrating website. Wrong size received. Lots of fees!
Great bra when ordered from Nordstrom. But when I tried to take advantage of a website sale, it was an awful experience from start to finish. Though this is the best bra for me, the website is THE MOST USER UNFRIENDLY website ever! Not only is it difficult to navigate, it changes sizes as you shop. It takes a long time and is totally frustrating. Then, I received the completely wrong size! So, in addition to paying $9 for shipping, I have to pay $5 to return it! I completed a customer service form on the lovely website (which was difficult to locate BTW). We'll see what kind of response I receive.
BEWARE of return policy before you…
BEWARE of return policy before you buy!!! I ordered with a credit card and received a dress that did not fit properly and was not nearly as pretty as shown in the catalog. Rather than crediting my card, I now have a $495 gift card that I won't use!

I have been on their site (doesn't recognize order number), called, emailed repeatedly for a MONTH. And I cannot get help making a return. Their underwear does not fit me at all.
