We were on the Norwegian Getaway and…
We were on the Norwegian Getaway and had a great time overall. The service was wonderful, the ship and our room were always kept very clean, and all of the staff were friendly, attentive, and very interactive with the guests. Overall, we would have given the experience 5 stars, except for our dinner at the Italian specialty restaurant. The food was good, but a little disappointing considering the additional $40 charge. The cheese on our pizza was burnt, and the lasagna was pretty basic and nothing particularly special. In fact, we felt the food in the main dining room was actually better, and the service there was excellent. That being said, we still had a wonderful time on the Getaway and would definitely recommend the ship.
Dislike the additional charges for…
Dislike the additional charges for everything Just paid 984. At the end of the cruise for additional charges 20 percent gratuities daily 2 dollars per drink even with the drink package Food was ok. No consideration for smoking one small outdoor area for 3000 cruisers
Norwegian Star, Southampton
Just returned from 2 week cruise from Southampton on Norwegian Star, to Scotland, Iceland and Norway. Good points:- 1. Ship condition and staff service excellent. All staff attentive, polite and cheery at all times. 2. Free coffee, tea, squash drinks available in buffet about 15 hours per day. Free ice cream at meals. 3. Food good, though not exceptional and often lukewarm. 4. Can walk all around promenade deck. 5. Seven chargeable speciality restaurants, but did not use them. 6. Theatre acts varied and all very high quality, though only 3 full shows by ships company. 7. Varied dancing activities and lessons. 8. More than enough sun loungers. 9. Quick no-hassle on/off ship at Southampton, though disembarkation starting 05.30 was a bit early. Bad points:- 1. No seating of any kind on promenade deck. 2. Very, very expensive drinks, gratuities ($20-25pppd) and shore excursions ($120 for return trip port to Edinburgh, local tram $6 !!). 3. Virtually no information on ports, shuttles, local transport. This and in-port timings encouraging use of cruise line excursions. 4. Expensive craft sessions (2-3 times price of “British” cruise lines). No guest lecturers. 5. No drink facilities in cabin, though if you knew to ask they gave you a free coffee maker. 6. No observation bar/lounge at front of ship. This area was 4 executive suites. 7. Terrible TV. The 3 non-sport non-news channels had the same films/programs on loop every day. No on demand TV. 8. Over 50% of daily program was selling products or body improvement activities. 9. Sometimes allowed people to enter theatre 20-25 minutes after the show had started, causing disturbance. 10. On sea days if decks were closed there were no quiet places free from music, live entertainment or selling activities. (library too small). 11. Told at every port that “In accordance with local laws, nothing edible could be brought on/off ship”. Never had that on any other cruise line and not sure is true, at least in UK. 12. Docking in Iceland delayed 3 hours by bad weather, but Captain made no effort to recover the schedule once the bad weather was past. Luckily we managed to reschedule our non-ship excursion at no extra cost. Despite the negatives we enjoyed our cruise, and would sail with NCL again if the itinerary and price were right..Overall 3/5 stars.
They just don’t care about your experience
They just don’t care about your experience… Boarding in Barcelona was a nightmare over three hours standing in line, a lady fainted next to us, no one from the team showed any interest whatsoever. Did complain to the “supervisor” she told us not to complain to them but to the cruise crew on board and so we did it took a good 20 minutes to get it done but not even an apology… they really don’t care. On board room has a couple minor details that we have reported twice over 3 days now. No one has showed up to fix them, if I only had a screwdriver I’d do it myself… how did I not think about bringing tools on vacation?? The Buffet is quite limited be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the couple restaurants we have tried so far are ok, but just ok. If you were expecting friendly staff they don’t work here and if you ask a question twice you will get an attitude. And by all means watch where you go on the ship, if you happen to be somewhere you are not supposed to be, they will kick you out and not with an explanation or in a friendly way. Their policy is being rude. Last year we took a Sun Princess cruise and that was lovely, to make a car comparison Sun Princess is a Porsche and Norwegian Viva is an old Jaguar… might look nice but it is packed with deception. Spend your money elsewhere.
Disappointing Dining Service & Tender Organization
Disappointing Dining, Service, and Tender Organization on NCL Jewel We sailed on the Norwegian Jewel from September 26 through October 7, visiting Maine and northeastern Canada. Unfortunately, several aspects of the cruise fell short of our expectations, particularly the dining, housekeeping, and tender organization. We paid for the specialty dining package, but both La Cucina and Le Bistro were disappointing. The service was poor and the food mediocre—hardly the experience we expected from restaurants requiring an additional charge. The unlimited open bar package also felt limited. Our experience was that the included options were sodas, house wine, and beer; bottled water and energy drinks were excluded. For a package described as “unlimited open bar,” we expected more, and the exclusions should have been clearer. Service overall was mediocre. One evening, after our cabin had been cleaned, we discovered that towels and toilet paper had not been replenished. We had to call guest services several times before these basic necessities were delivered. The most frustrating experience occurred at a port where we needed to take a tender ashore. Announcements about which passenger groups should report for boarding were confusing. We waited two hours to get off the ship and, as a result, missed an excursion we had already paid for. Given the cost of the cruise and the additional packages, we expected better food, more attentive service, and clearer communication. NCL needs to improve both the consistency of its onboard service and the organization of tender departures.
