Plusnet: The UK's Unapologetic Value Play
How a £390M revenue broadband giant wins with grit, not glamour
Plusnet isn't chasing unicorn status—it's chasing your router. With 859 employees and £390M in revenue, this Yorkshire-based ISP has carved out a lucrative niche by ignoring the premium market and focusing on the price-sensitive majority.
"Plusnet proves you can build a £390M business by being the 'budget option' without being the 'bad option'—even with a 1.8-star rating."
The Anti-Growth Growth Story
While competitors chase 5G and fiber revolutions, Plusnet's 65% direct traffic reveals something rare: genuine customer loyalty. These aren't one-time buyers—they're returning because the value proposition sticks. The 31% organic search traffic shows they're not invisible; they're just not flashy. This is a business built on retention, not acquisition hype.
The Trustpilot Paradox
Here's the contradiction: 1.8/5 stars on Trustpilot with 12,041 reviews, yet they're Uswitch's Broadband Provider of the Year for the third year running. This isn't a failure—it's a feature. Plusnet serves a demographic that values price over perfection. The negative reviews likely come from the segment that expects premium service at budget prices, while the loyal base quietly stays for the savings.
The keyword data reveals the truth: 'plusnet' (42K searches) and 'plusnet login' (6.9K) dominate, showing a user base that's engaged but not expanding rapidly. The shocking 15.7M monthly searches for 'speedtest'—likely hijacked by their tool—suggests they've become a utility, not just a provider. This is infrastructure-level stickiness.
- Built on BT's backbone but priced for the masses
- 65% direct traffic proves exceptional customer retention
- 1.8-star rating with Uswitch award—polarization as strategy
- 1.2M backlinks show SEO dominance in a crowded space
The Unsexy Billion-Dollar Playbook
Plusnet proves that in commoditized markets, winning isn't about being the best—it's about being good enough, cheap enough, and reliable enough to keep 65% of your customers coming back directly.

I had alot of problems moving my Internet from BT to Plusnet. Something to do with Open reach. However Usma remained on the case throughout and the issue was resolved and I am finally with Plusnet. I also got my £150 reward card. Thank you Usma for your help.
Fobbed off to incompetent Greenby
We have been customers of Plusnet for 17 years and have always been happy with them. Their staff have always been very patient with me on the rare occasion I've had to contact them, as a pensioner with limited tech knowledge that was greatly appreciated but they have gone way down in my estimation since they passed our email service over to Greenby, what a shambles! Shame on you Plusnet!!
Terrible customer service
Used to be good but in the last few years, I've had endless issues. I have to move house quite a bit and each time I move, I give them plenty of .notice but regardless, seem to have issues. Most recently, I was told to take the router with me and plug it in at the new home, the assistant said 'hopefully that will work'. When I did, it of course didn't work so they said they'd send another router that would be with me the next day. It arrived 2 days later and still didn't work. Each time I called them, I was told different information. I was then told to wait for a phone call to book an engineer, this never happened so I had to chase again. Eventually, the engineer came out and it was a quick fix but I was without internet for 10 days - I work from home. The most frustrating part is that they promise to call back or sort something out and never do. This has been the overriding experience with them for the last 5 years. I will not be renewing my contract.
How are you still in business and trading...???
They promised a speed and given the rural location of our home was completely neglected, needless to say that the service has been beyond bad since day one. Not a single attempt to try to improve, no compansation, nothing - despite the million calls when we reported service outage. Today I was rebooting my systems more than what I worked as signal kept dropping out all day. I work from home - you cannot imagine my frustration...
You have to wait for ever
As my internet contract was up I ordered Full Fibre service on 23rd Sep 2025 and it was supposed to start 7th Oct 2025. Yesterday 19th Jan 2026 after 7 engineer visits (2 no shows) a dozen phone calls, 27 texts from Openreach, 22 texts from Plusnet and 42 emails from them it finally started so If you like reading lots of emails and texts plus talking to really nice people who cannot get much done and don't mind waiting nearly 4 months for your service then this is the company for you.
