I was working on a translation of a book from Japanese to English, while doing the layout in Quark at the same time. My computer was acting up a bit, then my mouse had a problem, so I purchased a new iMac at the Apple store in Burlington. I downloaded all the info from the old Mac to an external hard drive. Unfortunately Quark had to be downloaded again with help from customer service when it did not appear on my desktop. Once I had this new download I had nothing but problems. - all the page numbers doubled up, 330 of them - saved work was not there the next time I opened the project, including some downloaded drawings - several other finished book layouts attached themselves to this new book document and I was not able to delete them - extra pages without page numbers attached themselves to two pages - fixed page numbers doubled up again - saved copies of the project, because I was now paranoid about losing work, saved in separate folders, ended up with the same mistakes as the original work Quark tech support made things worse. After spending three hours on a Zoom call I was left without page numbers which the tech guy was not able to fix. I was to wait until Monday for a solution. This was never fixed and I added about thirty page numbers manually a week later. Today I am not able scroll through the project to proof read it. This is a new problem and one that is now putting this job behind once again. It's already been months of redoing missing work, fixing page numbers over and over again, etc. I have said all along that the program sent to me earlier this year to my new iMac by Quark is corrupted. Someone finally admitted that but nothing has been done nothing about it. I am disgusted with Quark tech support. Their head office has no contact info, there doesn't seem to be anyone in charge, no managers - nothing. This company sucks, sells corrupted programs and charges a fortune not to help customers. I am now a month behind in getting this project completed and have no idea if it will even be a project that can be printed when I send it off. I have more projects I need to do but can't trust Quark to do anything to help me feel like I can trust doing any job in their piece of crap program. Unfortunately I have other work saved in Quark all of which is in jeopardy of being corrupted by this program. One is a nine book project for a client. I was told by text support after they were not able to get me help with the missing page numbers that I should send them my book. I was against this in case something went wrong and I would have worse corruption of this 330 page work. I am disgusted by Quark tech support. This problem should have been fixed weeks ago.
I had problem with billing
I had problem with billing - without my permission and without contact with me, they billed me for a $650 subscription. I contacted Quark immediately and, given that it was a Saturday, was told it would be dealt with by supervisors on that Monday. It was reversed 4 days later. No problem with Quark Software, which I've had for years.
No discount for persons with disabilities (subsidy program)
I downloaded the product Quark Express for the first month trial, was good but since I'm not a student at a university or faculty member I don't get a discount on the product and have to pay full price for lifetime license around 2300.00 CAD, the price for students is maybe 135.00 USD. Next to nothing. In Alberta Canada we have 1693.00 a month called AISH and many benefits that are included with the program. They should cover the cost of the product or subsidize it. After the trial period it quit working and asks for a license code to reenable it. Permanent lifetime boycott of Quark XPress as it is an American company, and others like it,including Adobe.
