Scoop.it: The Curator's Dilemma
How a content curation tool built a $10M business while flying under the radar
In an era of AI-generated noise, Scoop.it quietly built a $10M revenue business by solving a human problem: finding quality content. But its traffic tells a story of identity crisis—where sports streaming keywords outperform its core brand.
"Scoop.it proves that in content curation, the tool matters less than the habit—and habits are worth $10M."
The Professional's Secret Weapon
With 60% direct traffic, Scoop.it's users aren't discovering it—they're returning to it. This isn't a viral growth story; it's a utility tool that embedded itself into professional workflows. The 42-person team supports a $10.4M business, implying high-value B2B contracts rather than mass-market adoption.
The Traffic Identity Crisis
Here's the paradox: Scoop.it's top keyword is 'totalsportek' (1.4M volume), followed by 'crackstreams' (1.2M). These are sports streaming sites, not content curation. This suggests either a hacked SEO strategy or a domain with historical baggage. The real brand terms ('scoop it', 'scoopit') total only ~13K monthly searches—tiny for a $10M business.
The data reveals a classic B2B SaaS pattern: product-market fit without product awareness. Scoop.it's 32% organic search traffic is healthy, but the 60% direct traffic suggests it's a tool people use daily, not search for weekly. The Trustpilot rating of 2.8/5 from only 3 reviews signals either a small user base or a product that doesn't inspire passionate advocacy—functional but not beloved.
- High-value B2B model: $247K revenue per employee
- Traffic disconnect: Sports keywords outrank brand terms
- Workflow tool, not viral product: 60% direct traffic
- Stable but not growing: No funding round suggests bootstrapped maturity
The Quiet Giant of Content Curation
Scoop.it isn't chasing VC glory—it's building a sustainable business for professionals who need to cut through the noise. In an age of AI content farms, that's more valuable than ever.

Terrible experience
I proposed Scoop it to my daughter because I thought it was a useful tool to gather and curate articles (I use it as a reader). I logged in into her account today to help her to solve some issues and was greatly disappointed. The "free offer" looks like a fraud. When you curate content under the "free offer" you get an popup that offer you pay options without any possibility to get rid of it. When you use the chat tool and click on the "free offer" button, it will propose the paying options ! Not user-friendly at all. Deleting a topic is quite an issue (certainly to make you pay : that's what we have finally done).
