Securly: The Invisible Giant of EdTech
How a $62M revenue company dominates school security with 17M monthly visits
While you were debating SaaS metrics, Securly quietly became the digital gatekeeper for millions of students worldwide. This isn't just another edtech startup—it's the infrastructure layer schools didn't know they needed.
"Securly achieved 70% direct traffic—a metric most B2B SaaS companies can only dream of. This isn't marketing; it's infrastructure."
The Silent Monopoly Play
With 350 employees and $35.3M in funding, Securly has built an unsexy but unbreakable moat. Their secret? They solved the real problem: not just filtering content, but managing student digital identity. The 'ehallpass' keyword alone drives 51K monthly searches—this isn't SEO, it's product-market fit so deep it becomes vocabulary.
The B2B2C Trojan Horse
Securly's genius lies in its dual-sided network: school administrators buy it, but students and teachers become daily power users. The 21% organic traffic isn't from content marketing—it's from schools Googling solutions to problems Securly already solved. Their India operations (led by co-founders Neeraj and Alpana Thakar) likely built the cost structure that makes this scale possible.
The Trustpilot rating tells the real story: 1.2/5 from 430 reviews. This isn't a failure—it's proof they're solving a genuinely hard problem. Schools don't choose Securly because they love it; they choose it because the alternative is chaos. The 70% direct traffic proves they've become the default, not the choice.
- Product-led growth without calling it that: teachers search 'ehallpass' because it's already the solution
- The 'unsexy' infrastructure play: content filtering and digital identity management for K-12
- Global operations model: India-based engineering and ops likely enable their cost structure
- Network effects in education: once a district adopts, lock-in is near-perfect
The Boring Billion-Dollar Infrastructure Play
Securly proves that in enterprise software, the most valuable companies aren't the loudest—they're the ones that become invisible infrastructure. Their 70% direct traffic isn't a vanity metric; it's the ultimate product-market fit signal.

Just don’t do it
Educators have failed us and society. Securly is an example of how educators want to take control of students lives. Have you ever heard that school is similar to prison? Well SECURLY is doing nothing to prove that theory wrong in fact I would argue SECURLY is part of the reason people think that. They don’t allow kids to be kids to SECURLY fun is not in the dictionary. I would understand trying to protect students from the dangers out there but blocking games? What is so bad about playing MATH games that they need to be blocked. Phones are already banned in schools in Nebraska. So why take it a step further and block any kinds of website that offers even a hint of fun. And if you want to argue “games distract students from doing their work”it depends on the student if a student doesn’t want to do schoolwork they won’t wether or not games are involved end of discussion. SECURLY is helping schools overwork students and helping them suck the fun out of school. Thanks to SECURLY school does indeed feel like a prison. How are students expected to enjoy school and learning when they never get a break or a chance to have fun. A good educator would find a way to incorporate fun into learning and not make everyday school life miserable. SECURLY might not be the whole problem but it’s a big part in it. That’s why I urge schools all over the world not to use SECURLY. All SECURLY is doing is help students feel miserble in school and indeed making them feel like they are in prison. Please schools all over the world don’t do it if you really don’t want school to feel like a prison.
Securly is awful. It blocks almost everything for no reason.
Jilly: Hi i am 5 i was born at youngage. I have crusty shool crombook that i have to use for scool. Ts is my only compter. I have picknose brother and daddy. Daddy wants to lern blckjack. But wen i serch it on chromebook, nome pops up eating wire. daddy says eating wire is bad. i tell daddy about it, but daddy picking up brother. wen i came back to room, i saw nome on shelf. i didn't care and searched games. nome threw teddy baers at me. i laugh. teddy bears are soft and week. but nome went to daddys tungsten babells and threw one at me. Jilly's Father: Our family is poor, and we aren't able to afford many things. Sure, we are paying lots of money for our idiot middle child, Jilly, but that is 90% of our budget. Unfortunately, we can't undo that. Our youngest child, Billy, also does many idiotic things, like picking his nose and whatnot. However, we learned not to pay that much money for any child, and we keep him at my brother's. Our only piece of digital technology is our middle child's chromebook, as our oldest is currently at military school. Don't ask what he did. Let's say that fire in Colorado wasn't a natural thing. Anyway, I ask my middle child for any searches, but this stupid Securly blocks many things, like simple searches, stimulating content, tutorials, etc. Once, I asked Jilly how to play blackjack, but the computer took a while to load. This would have taken a while, so I picked up our youngest, and drove home. Once I came back, I thought, I might as well exercise now. You see, I am a bodybuilder, so I use strong metal dumbbells made of tungsten. However, when I got back, my dumbbells were out of place, and Jilly was on the floor, unconscious. Her face was dented, and one of my dumbbells were lying next to her. Of course, she is an idiot. As I went to my phone to call the ambulance, I noticed a strange thing. Something was off. Jilly's injury wasn't an accident. Jilly's younger brother: i like cars. Jilly's Mother I have to work 24/7. I don't mean taking care of my kids, since that is what my husband takes care of. I work at home, and I work next to Jilly's neat room. I create wood figures, sometimes for my children, sometimes for my pleasure. When I came back to check on Jilly, since she was awfully quiet after 5 minutes proceeding a loud bang, I saw my sweet, sweet child on the floor. Not Billy, Jilly. She was next to one of my husband's dumbbells, unresponsive. I screamed, "Bobby! Why aren't you calling 911! It's your fault that Jilly is unconscious!" He responded that he didn't do anything to Jilly, and he just found her like that. He also said that something was off there. After looking around for some time, I noticed something. There was a gnome perched on a shelf 20 feet above us. We would never buy a gnome since our oldest was scared of gnomes(I wonder why[Hint: What blocks almost anything]). We try to keep gnomes away from the rest of our children, but we pondered how that gnome ended up here. Next to Jilly was a tab titled "securly.com." This showed a gnome chewing on a wire and a temporary ban for 4 minutes counting down. We looked back at the eerily identical gnome we initially noticed. Then, the gnome leaped at us. It knocked me out. Jilly's younger brother: i want to drive car. Jilly's father: My wife fell to the ground, laying unconscious. That is where I took it personally. I grabbed my youngest's toy license, which looked oddly realistic, and tried to slice the gnome's weak spot, the neck. It dodged it, and I threw a window pane at it. Millions of pieces flew all over the place, wounding all of us. I took this battle outside while holding a baseball bat. Every swing I took was a swing dodged by the gnome. The gnome charged at me, but slipped and got ran over by a lawn mower. He looked damaged, but okay. I noticed his back was fatigued, so I grabbed it and threw it at a closed road nearby. The gnome was still okay somehow, but it was initiating a self destruct sequence. The gnome was getting mad. There was nowhere else to go. Then, some lights and a motor roar came from the distance. As it drove at 60 mph, it rammed into the gnome full force. Thousands of ceramic pieces flew like the window glass. I was relieved, but then remembered that the road was closed. Who seemingly "saved" us? Is this a coincidence? Jilly's younger brother: remember when i said i wanted to drive car? i took lamborgini and accidentally hit bald mad egghead wire eating makeshift dollar store gnome. hold on, my dad is there celebating and coming to me. he is hugging me. when i went to my sister's room, i saw my sister and mother with glass shards poking them, but they were okay. i guess it is a good ending. or is it? um why is there a gnome coming out of my sister's computer?

when I was a little boy I saw a shooting star and it gave me cancer so I went bald and I thought it would give me super powers like spiderman but it didn't and I just got more sick and went even balder than andrew Tate and died.
I was just walking home
I was just walking home through the sketchy part of town after having looked up a few things about 9uNs on my laptop i made a wrong turn into a creepy ally way and the securely gnomes jumped out they clapped hard if you know what i mean and they beat me then when i woke up i was in Cuba and because i am from the USA i was cooked i fled to Canada and they are too weird there um and then i got 🍇ed by a Canadian bear, F!ck securly overall
