Telestream: The Unsung Engine of Live Video
How a 465-person company quietly powers the streaming giants
While Netflix and YouTube grab headlines, Telestream operates the invisible infrastructure that makes modern video possible. This isn't a consumer startup—it's the industrial backbone for live events, broadcasts, and enterprise video workflows.
"Telestream isn't building for viral moments—they're building for the 24/7 infrastructure that never sleeps."
The Enterprise Moat
With 465 employees and $84.3M in revenue, Telestream operates at a $181K revenue-per-employee ratio that screams efficiency. Their 49% organic search traffic indicates strong brand recognition in professional circles—engineers and broadcast professionals aren't discovering them by accident; they're searching for solutions that only Telestream provides.
The ScreenFlow Surprise
The keyword data reveals an unexpected insight: 'screenflow' (13,400 monthly searches) outperforms 'telestream' itself (9,590 searches). This suggests their desktop product has become a category leader in its own right, creating a consumer-facing wedge into the enterprise video workflow market.
The Trustpilot rating of 2.3/5 from only 7 reviews is telling. This isn't a company chasing consumer satisfaction scores—they're selling mission-critical infrastructure to enterprises where uptime and reliability matter more than user delight. The low review count itself indicates they're not playing in the consumer arena where review volume is a proxy for success.
- Strong brand equity in professional circles (49% organic traffic)
- Product-led growth via ScreenFlow creating enterprise entry points
- Enterprise-class workflow automation as a moat
- Efficient revenue-per-employee ratio indicating operational discipline
The Infrastructure Play
Telestream wins where consumer metrics don't matter—on reliability, scale, and professional-grade performance for the backbone of video delivery.

Screenflow: bad usability and terrible customer support
Purchased ScreenFlow back when it was version 9 and then the update to 10, thinking it was a the top product on the market. Was not a good choice. The usability is mediocre and support inexistent. It was extremely hard to open a ticket in the first place, due to their support website, whose usability standards date back to the nineties, and then got no replies after the initial prompt and a second one, a month later. Never seen such rubbish support, not even from one-dev startups. The company seems to sell lots of different products rather than being focused on a single one, and put a lot of effort in it.
If you buy some thing from telescreen…
If you buy some thing from telescreen they will auto charge you every year and hide your credit card information so it’s almost impossible to find it and delete it. It’s also in almost impossible to contact your support. I’d recommend not ever pay directly to them and just look for another brands products.
Unethical sales tactics
First off first, used Telestream's Screenflow for screen capture and editing and the product is good and easy to use. The review is about the company's unethical sales tactics. They give the impression you're paying a one-off fee for the product only to realize it is a temporary license. Why? Because of their forced and paid product updates. They would lock you out of the product in about a year unless you pay for the latest release. The older one would just stop working on your machine, this is if you upgrade your OS. And even if you don't after a while, they phase out support and you will realize certain features will stop working and they will force you to update to a newer one. To keep using the product, you will need to buy a later version "at a discount". The initial sales page mentions nothing about this. To be fair, maybe T&Cs have a fine print somewhere. Haven't dug. Then, their support will respond something along the lines of "sorry but it's our way or the highway" and "we're sorry if this wasn't apparent in our initial sales documentation". No, it wasn't. Anyone convince me of the contrary by looking at their sales page and I would be willing to update this review. I urge the company to change their sales page to reflect the fact that new buyers are paying for this version only which will stop working properly unless buyers purchse a paid upgrade or they NEVER upgrade their OS ever.
One of the worst customer service…
One of the worst customer service experience of any SAAS provider. Their livestream product Wirecast, IS A JOKE. Unstable, crashes regularly, has cost us hundreds of hours in fixing corrupted saved video files. if running a serious live production - STAY AWAY. Customer support is hidden behind two websites, and literally two separate logins. Virtually non-existent. And then several hidden charges with each update, and alleged "bug fix".
no support
no support, if i want to get support i have to find my license serial number in order to log into the support but they don't send it via email and it's not in the customer portal. bad service, don't buy
