TrickleStar: The Quiet Giant in Smart Energy
How a 33-person team is quietly disrupting the $6.5M energy efficiency market
In a world obsessed with flashy AI startups, TrickleStar is playing a different game—building a $6.5M business selling smart power strips and energy monitors to the mundane but massive home and garden market. With just 33 employees, they're proving that boring infrastructure can be wildly profitable.
"Their traffic isn't viral—it's loyal. 50% direct traffic screams repeat customers, not flash-in-the-pan interest."
The Traffic Paradox
TrickleStar's 4,785 monthly visits seem modest, but the composition tells a different story. With 50% direct traffic and only 35% organic search, they've built a base of repeat buyers who type 'tricklestar login' (230 monthly searches) and 'tricklestar annual report' (380 monthly searches). This isn't a brand chasing algorithms—it's one with institutional customers and loyal DIYers who know exactly what they want.
The B2B2C Playbook
The search data reveals a hybrid strategy. While 'tricklestar power bar' and 'tricklestar surge protector' suggest consumer interest, the high volume for 'annual report' and 'login' points to B2B contracts—likely with utilities, municipalities, and corporate sustainability programs. This dual identity explains their stability: consumer demand provides growth, while B2B contracts provide predictable revenue.
Their tech stack is pragmatic, not trendy. jQuery and Bootstrap alongside Tailwind and Vite shows a team that evolves incrementally. They're not rebuilding their stack every year—they're adding modern tools where it makes sense. This engineering philosophy mirrors their business approach: optimize, don't reinvent.
- The 2.3/5 Trustpilot rating (6 reviews) is a red flag—either poor customer service or a product that's hard to install
- Their Spanish keyword ('estación de energía portatil') hints at international expansion or a bilingual customer base
- The 95.5% 'undefined' country traffic suggests either tracking issues or a truly global, privacy-conscious audience
The Unsexy Billion-Dollar Opportunity
While everyone chases AI, TrickleStar is building the infrastructure for a smarter grid—one power strip at a time. Their 33-person team is proof that you don't need to be sexy to be scalable.

TRICKLESTAR MISREPRESENTS POWER STRIP FOR SOME PC LAPTOPS
I purchased a TrickleStar “Advanced Power Strip” on Amazon because I wanted peripherals that consume standby electricity to be truly “energy inert” when the MacBook Air laptop that I use them with is not drawing power. Unfortunately, over a month or two, the TrickleStar power strip stopped cutting power to its “switched outlets” when the laptop’s “control outlet” was plugged in but not drawing power. In other words, the power strip stopped functioning as advertised and warranted by TrickleStar. I corresponded multiple times with TrickleStar customer service, and they acknowledged the problem but blamed it on my MacBook Air! TrickleStar told me that “thin laptops” don’t draw enough power to meet the power strip’s minimum threshold of 10 watts, even though the power strip did initially work and despite the fact that Apple lists the MacBook Air as a 30-watt device on its product page. Essentially, TrickleStar markets and represents their “Advanced Power Strip” as being for PCs while knowing that it cannot function with personal computers that are thin laptops. This is fraud, especially since they refused to honor their stated warranty. They should clearly state the known defect/incompatibility with MacBook Air and other thin laptops on their Amazon and other product pages, but they willfully keep the information from prospective customers. This is typical corporate sliminess and unethical behavior, and I highly recommend NOT buying from TrickleStar.
