VMware: The Private Cloud's Last Stand
Inside Broadcom's $12.85B bet on the enterprise fortress
In the ruthless war between public cloud giants and private infrastructure, VMware has chosen its side. Under Broadcom's aggressive ownership, the former virtualization kingpin isn't just surviving—it's reinventing itself as the last bastion of enterprise sovereignty.
"VMware isn't selling tools anymore—they're selling control back to the enterprise in an era of cloud lock-in."
The Broadcom Transformation
The acquisition hasn't been subtle. VMware's 28,888 employees now operate within Broadcom's ruthless efficiency framework. The website alone reveals the shift: gone is the sprawling ecosystem pitch, replaced by a single, focused message: 'Discover the Modern Private Cloud.' This isn't incremental change—it's a strategic retreat from the broad platform play to a fortified enterprise stronghold.
Traffic Tells the Story
With 1.93M monthly visits and a global rank of #30,243, VMware commands serious attention. But the 56% organic search traffic reveals something critical: people aren't being fed VMware content through paid channels—they're actively seeking it. The 34% direct traffic suggests a deeply embedded enterprise user base that types vmware.com directly into their browser. This is the traffic pattern of an essential utility, not a trendy startup.
The keyword data confirms this enterprise lock-in. 'VMware' alone commands 422,810 monthly searches, dwarfing competitors. But more telling are the specific products: Workstation (142K searches), Fusion (62K), and their downloads. This isn't cloud-native startup traffic—this is legacy infrastructure that refuses to die, and VMware is smartly positioning itself as the bridge to modern private clouds.
- The 13.9M backlinks represent decades of enterprise documentation and community trust—moats that can't be bought with ad spend
- Trustpilot's 2.3/5 rating from only 7 reviews suggests either apathy or a support system so effective that customers don't need public complaints
- The tech stack (Tailwind, Bootstrap, OneTrust) reveals a pragmatic, security-first approach over flashy innovation
The Fortress Strategy
While others chase the public cloud, VMware is building the last great private infrastructure empire.

Best virtualization experience
VMware Workstation (or player) is the best virtual machine software. Virtual machines are smooth and customizable.

Best virtualization software there is in my opinion. Keep up the good work.
Decent technology!
Decent technology! I use their VMware Workstation all the time. I would give them 5 stars if they allowed their later versions to work without ESLAT processor instruction sets but oh well! Customer service is very decent. Helped me with my licencing issue quickly.

Since Broadcom it's now impossible to even buy the software let alone get support
The migration from VMWare to Broadcom…
The migration from VMWare to Broadcom has been absolutely terrible. Slow and without proper assistance. This is the worst experience I've had with a provider. Broadcom has disabled sections of their portal, preventing me from updating my profile to meet the requirements needed to agree to their terms of service before downloading a product I've already paid for. Customer support representatives are utterly useless. Two weeks and counting without access to my products. Thanks a lot.
