Yellow Pages: The Digital Ghost of a Paper Giant
How a legacy brand survives on 3.8M monthly visits while losing the trust battle
Yellowpages.com is the digital afterlife of a paper empire—a $825M revenue machine that still commands 3.8 million monthly visits despite a 1.7-star rating. It's a fascinating case study in brand inertia and the brutal economics of local search.
"Yellow Pages doesn't compete on product—it competes on memory. The brand is its only moat."
The Traffic Paradox
With 69% of traffic coming from organic search, Yellow Pages isn't winning on brand loyalty—it's winning on SEO arbitrage. The term 'yellow pages' alone drives 72K monthly searches, while 'yp' drives an astonishing 327K. This isn't a product people seek out; it's a habit they can't break. The real insight? 27% direct traffic suggests a core user base that still types 'yellowpages.com' into their browser like it's 1999.
The Trust Deficit
A 1.7-star rating on Trustpilot from 133 reviews is catastrophic for any business. Yet the revenue keeps flowing. This reveals a brutal truth about B2B local services: when you're the default, you don't need to be good—you just need to exist. Plumbers and attorneys aren't buying Yellow Pages ads for ROI; they're buying them because it's what their industry has always done. The product is inertia, not innovation.
The tech stack tells its own story. Tailwind CSS, Bootstrap, and Google Analytics are the tools of a company optimizing for maintenance, not revolution. OneTrust for compliance signals they're in survival mode, protecting against lawsuits rather than building the future. Meanwhile, Thryv—their corporate parent—appears to be the real business, with Yellow Pages serving as the consumer-facing brand that still, somehow, pays the bills.
- Revenue of $825M from a brand everyone claims is dead
- 22 million backlinks—mostly legacy directory links that still pass SEO juice
- Undefined traffic share dominates (92%), suggesting tracking gaps or international markets they're not optimizing for
The Zombie Giant Will Outlive Us All
Yellow Pages proves that in B2B, brand memory and SEO moats can sustain a business long after it stops innovating. The real question isn't whether it survives—it's whether any challenger can ever dislodge a brand that lives in the collective unconscious of local commerce.

My Special Experience at Crown motors Ltd at Yuen Long Service Center
Today, on November 7th, I drove my Toyota car to the Crown motors Ltd Car at Yuen Long Service Center to diagnose an unusual noise that occurred before driving. At the reception, I was assisted by Mr. Victor Lee. After he understood the situation, he promptly arranged for a maintenance technician to accompany me on a test drive. During the drive, the technician carefully identified the specific conditions under which the noise occurred. After returning to the service center, I received a call in about an hour informing me that the issue had been resolved. We were then invited for a second test drive with the technician to confirm the solution. After approximately 15 minutes of driving, I was able to verify that the problem was completely fixed. I am truly grateful to the frontline staff and the technician for their dedication in understanding my concern and providing such a swift resolution. I highly commend the Toyota branch of Crown Car Dealership in Yuen Long for their exceptionally professional attitude.
Gray’s Pool
Vic Gray, owner of Gray’s Pool’s was recommended to me by a pool company to repair my liner for my in ground pool. 1st let me say not only did Vic drive from Krotz Springs to Lafayette to look at the pool and give us an estimate, but he came back for 2 weeks in the cold weather to complete the work we needed done. Which turned out to be more than a liner, but we didn’t know that until he got the old linear off. He is courteous, honest, professional, and very experienced. I asked him about different options of repairs and he helped us make the best decisions. Even picking out a beautiful liner that I admire everyday! We had him add a rail to the steps because I felt we really need one as we are older and this pool never had one. His prices are fair and his work is excellent. Vic was a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend his services for repair. He also does pool covers.
