Amazon: The Everything Store's Endgame
How 3 billion monthly visits and a $4.5T market cap redefine commerce
Amazon isn't just a retailer anymore—it's the infrastructure of modern commerce. With 3 billion monthly visits and a $4.5 trillion market cap, it has become the default operating system for how we buy, stream, and compute. The question isn't what Amazon sells; it's what it doesn't touch.
"Amazon doesn't compete in markets—it becomes the market itself."
The Prime Flywheel Effect
The genius of Amazon's model isn't in retail margins—it's in the ecosystem lock-in. With 'amazon' (98M searches) and 'prime video' (15M searches) as top keywords, Amazon has transformed from a bookstore to a subscription empire. Prime isn't a perk; it's the moat. Once customers pay for shipping, they stop shopping elsewhere, creating a data feedback loop that feeds AWS, Alexa, and every subsequent product.
The Traffic Monopoly
67% of Amazon's traffic is direct—users don't search for 'online store,' they type 'amazon.com' directly. This is the ultimate brand dominance. Compare that to typical e-commerce sites where organic search drives 40-50% of traffic. Amazon has conditioned an entire generation to bypass the consideration phase entirely. The 2.1 billion backlinks don't just boost SEO; they make Amazon the internet's gravitational center.
What's most revealing is the Trustpilot rating: 1.7/5 from 43,132 reviews. This isn't a bug—it's a feature of scale. When you're the default option for 3 billion monthly visits, customer satisfaction becomes secondary to convenience. The real metric isn't star ratings; it's repeat purchase rate, which Amazon dominates through friction removal, not service excellence.
- AWS powers 30% of the internet but is invisible to most Amazon shoppers
- Alexa devices are loss leaders that harvest voice data for AI training
- Amazon's private label products undercut competitors using their own sales data
- The 'smile more' tagline masks a marketplace where 60% of sales come from third-party sellers
Amazon's Endgame: Be the Internet's Backend
From retail to infrastructure, Amazon's real business is becoming invisible while powering everything else

Solid service as usual
Solid service as usual, the working conditions may not be good, but the price sure is right.
Good snow boots, a bit small
These arrived more quickly than I expected. Only problem was that the parcel was left outside the main door of my block of flats. A kind neighbour brought it in.
Useless contact info
I use Amazon alot. Deliveries are a pain. Do not ring doorbell. But this week i tried to contact them over something. A nightmare there system is just a loop got no where. Not good considering whsg the earn and pay no tax, allegedly.

I'm a bit too kind here because somehow Amazon is failing to deliver anywhere near fast. The orders, many, that I made two weeks ago including things I need NOW, have not arrived. When I called I was told an item would, after two weeks arrive yesterday and it didn't. I was told that it is not Amazon but their delivery system that has "back up" problems. Nonsense! They are responsible for delivery no matter whom. This has not happened up until now and it's not good. Two examples that I need NOW are vitamins and computer ink. Neither have been delivered and I am a Prime customer. Huh?
