BlackBerry's Phoenix Rise: From Handsets to High-Security IoT
How a fallen phone giant pivoted to become the backbone of secure enterprise connectivity.
BlackBerry isn't dead; it’s evolved. Once the undisputed king of mobile email, the company has quietly transformed into a high-margin cybersecurity and IoT powerhouse. Today, blackberry.com isn't selling you a phone—it's securing the critical infrastructure that runs our world.
"BlackBerry's pivot wasn't just successful; it was a masterclass in corporate survival—trading consumer hype for government contracts."
The Pivot: From B2C to B2B
The brand equity remains, but the business model has fundamentally shifted. While organic search volume is still dominated by nostalgic queries like 'blackberry phone' (49,740 monthly searches), the revenue engine is now QNX. This real-time OS powers over 235 million vehicles and critical embedded systems. They stopped fighting Apple for the consumer and started partnering with Ford, BMW, and government agencies.
The Traffic Paradox
With 473,362 monthly visits and a global rank of #112,824, the site isn't a traffic giant. However, the 53% organic search rate reveals strong intent. The audience isn't browsing; they're looking for specific solutions. The traffic composition suggests a mature, niche audience rather than mass-market appeal—a profile that enterprise investors prefer.
- The 'BlackBerry' keyword still drives 203,300 monthly searches, acting as a massive SEO moat.
- Their tech stack is modern: Tailwind CSS and Bootstrap suggest a focus on responsive, modular design.
- Despite the pivot, the Trustpilot rating of 1.7/5 indicates lingering consumer frustration over the hardware phase-out.
The leadership structure, with Hank Riccitelli and John Giamatteo steering the ship, reflects this B2B focus. Unlike the consumer-centric days of the past, the executive team now prioritizes government affairs and enterprise security. The 7 million backlinks serve as a testament to their enduring authority in the tech space, even if the public perception hasn't fully caught up with the business reality.
The Silent Giant
BlackBerry proves that the most successful pivots are the ones where the market stops watching—until the earnings reports start rolling in.

Best customer service ever
I was surprised by the level of customer support I have received. There was an issue with my blackberry functionality, which resulted by my own fault. I have contacted customer support on BB website for an advice. I have received immediate phone call from customer service. This guy spend half an hour on phone explaining and leading me step by step to solve the issue. And it was solved. Customer support was way above my expectations. And phones are good - still using it.

Mine just keeps hanging when I insert a Sim...but without a Sim it works perfect...why?
using BlackBerry phones for 10 years
Using BlackBerry phones for about 10 years. Right now, I own Priv which is my 6ht or 7th smartphone from RIM. A little disappointed that camera used to be better on 990 and Q10. And honestly, the BB OS used to be so cool back in the day. Otherwise, they are still my favourite brand. You can't beat the physical keyboard.
Great!
Customer service was friendly and quick! I would buy from them again!
