CardConnect: The Invisible Giant of Payments
How Fiserv's quiet powerhouse dominates through partners, not direct hype
While Stripe and Square chase headlines, CardConnect quietly moves $69.7M in revenue through a 429-person operation built for one purpose: making ISO partners filthy rich. This is the infrastructure layer of payments no one talks about.
"CardConnect doesn't sell to merchants. They sell to the people who sell to merchants—and that makes all the difference."
The Partner-First DNA
CardConnect's entire model is inverted from typical fintechs. Instead of direct-to-merchant acquisition, they power 10% of their traffic through organic search while 70% comes direct—likely ISO partners logging into CardPointe. Their 1.1M monthly visits aren't merchants browsing pricing; they're partners managing portfolios. This B2B2C moat is brutally efficient: acquire one partner, unlock thousands of merchants. The 1.9/5 Trustpilot rating becomes irrelevant when your customers are resellers, not end-users.
The Fiserv Acquisition Play
Fiserv didn't buy CardConnect for their brand—they bought their partner engine. At $69.7M revenue with 429 employees, that's $162K revenue per employee, lean for payments infrastructure. The CardPointe platform (7,760 monthly searches) is the real asset: a white-label command center that lets ISOs brand their own payment empire. When Fiserv integrated CardConnect, they weren't adding a product; they were weaponizing a distribution channel.
- CardPointe platform drives 7,760 monthly searches—partners are locked in
- 70% direct traffic proves sticky, habitual usage (not marketing fluff)
- ISO model creates exponential leverage: 1 partner = 100s of merchants
The tech stack reveals the story: Chart.js for partner analytics, Hotjar for UX optimization, and Twitter/Facebook pixels tracking B2B conversions, not consumer sales. They're not building a beautiful marketing funnel—they're building a functional utility for partners to extract value. The undefined country traffic (97.6%) is likely US-centric ISOs who don't need SEO because they're already in the ecosystem.
The Unsexy Billion-Dollar Blueprint
CardConnect proves infrastructure beats branding when you own the partners who control the merchants

Card Connect is a scamming service
Card Connect is a scamming service. I signed on to use Clover without knowing Card Connect is the behind-the-scene processor. This company arbitrarily charges exorbitant fees, fees that other processors charge a few dollars monthly, Card Connect charges $299 per year. Their customer service is rude and their only mission is to deny, deny, deny. They also downgraded my simple straight forward credit card transactions to mid-qualified and non-qualified to extract higher fees. Their practice is shameless and borderline scamming, they thought they can do anything since they are in the driver's seat. My advice is, stay away from this company to avoid being ripped off $
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
AVOID AT ALL COSTS My small merchant processor relationship was established in 2011- it was sold to First Data which was sold to CardConnect/Fiserv. My rates continued to creep up without warning year after year. I noticed a $299 "PCI Annual Fee" on my latest invoice. Mind you, I am PCI compliant and submit the self evaluation each year. There's NO WARNING that this fee will be applied and the amount is unheard of in the industry. The fun part is trying to cancel the account. A ticket is made for the request to go to "Retention". Two days later I call back and insist on speaking with Cancellations. The associate aggressively informs me that "You only requested cancellation two days ago". SO WHY HAVEN'T I RECEIVED A CONFIRMATION OF SUCH? Absolutely no communication from them after phone calls and emails. She said it could take 30 days to close the account. I've never heard of such BS! They want MONEY from you. They want you to be busy with your small business and not notice the ridiculous fees they take month after month. Honestly can't believe their practices are legal. RUN FAR AWAY!
Hidden fees
Hidden fees, dishonest employees, cannot get a hold of anyone when you need help.
Den Of Thieves
This is the absolute worst option you can choose for credit card processing. They increase fees without notification. Overcharge you. Do NOT choose them for your CC processing. This company refuses to send me a copy of my contract. As part of the "requirements" they insist on sending full social security number via unsecured email. Ive been dealing with their customer service for 3 months. They do not give consistent information. Initially telling me they could work with only the last 3 digits on my SS#. After completing the form, they did not respond. I called weeks later and they said "we did not include full SS#" and they refuse to send it. A true nightmare.
They don't tell you how to cancel! It took me 3 times!
So I had a problem with a terminal 4-5 years ago. Got in a heated conversation with a manager and told him I will never work with their company again and to cancel everything. I am a small business so I work in the office, my wife does paperwork and bookkeeper does the taxes. Little did if find out that this little 29.95 a month bill was still being pulled out of our account! They demand that you email them a cancelation or write them a letter! But when you cancel them on the phone they don't tell you that!! I put in a complaint to the FTC. Shame on them!!
