Getaroom.com: The Paradox of a $147M Giant
A $147M revenue giant with a 1.4-star rating and a mysterious tech stack.
In a world dominated by Booking.com and Expedia, a legacy player is quietly raking in $147.4M annually. But behind the revenue numbers lies a fascinating story of brand recognition, user distrust, and a digital footprint that defies modern SEO logic.
"Getaroom.com is a revenue giant trapped in a digital time capsule—dominated by direct traffic but crippled by user trust."
The Loyal (or Trapped) User Base
The data reveals a massive reliance on direct traffic (69% of visits). This isn't just brand loyalty; it's habit. Users are likely returning to a familiar name or using saved bookmarks, bypassing search engines entirely. However, with organic search contributing only 9% of traffic, the brand is invisible to new customers searching for travel deals. This is a high-risk dependency on legacy brand equity that is slowly eroding.
The SEO Paradox
Despite 37,713 monthly visits, their keyword strategy is bafflingly thin. Ranking for 'getaroom' and 'get a room' is expected, but the lack of volume for transactional keywords suggests they are not competing in the broader travel search market. The absence of detected technologies in their stack is either a data anomaly or a sign of a heavily customized, legacy backend that search engines struggle to crawl effectively. They are winning the brand battle but losing the visibility war.
The Trustpilot score of 1.4/5 across 10,676 reviews is the elephant in the room. For a travel site, this indicates systemic issues—likely hidden fees, cancellation policies, or customer service failures. While they generate revenue, the brand reputation is in the gutter. This suggests a 'transactional' relationship with customers rather than a 'loyal' one, making them vulnerable to competitors who prioritize user experience.
- Revenue vs. Reputation: $147M revenue with a 1.4-star rating is a massive red flag for sustainability.
- Traffic Dependency: 69% direct traffic creates a fragile ecosystem; any disruption to brand recall could be fatal.
- SEO Void: 9% organic traffic indicates a failure to capture new market share through search.
- Tech Mystery: 0 detected technologies suggests a closed, legacy system that hinders agility and integration.
A Legacy Giant on Shaky Ground
Getaroom.com proves that revenue doesn't equal resilience. Without fixing the trust deficit and SEO invisibility, this $147M giant is running on fumes.

Absolute scam / hotels are complicit
Absolute scam. We deliberately tried to book direct through the hotel but still got tricked. They do everything possible to trick you into thinking you are booking directly through the hotel, but then also charge you exorbitant fees and make it impossible to change or cancel which you would actually be able to do if you did book through the hotel. These are predatory business practices and Hilton and any other company allowing these sites to book their hotels are complicit in allowing their customers to be scammed.
I was deceived into believing I was…
I was deceived into believing I was booking a room directly with the Auckland Airport Kiwi Hotel on 23/11/25. I did not discover until the reservation confirmation was sent that I was dealing with a third party, and at an astronomical USD $163.74! I cancelled the booking, but I could not stop the money being charged to my Visa. I contacted Getaroom who stated that they charge $163.74 for the cancellation fee! So essentially, even though I cancelled well before the 24 hour deadline, I still had to pay.
Getaroom.com scam 2200.00
I booked a room on a Google search and I had 3 wks to cancel and get all of the money back. I found out the next day this was much higher than other rooms and had over 700 fees. I canceled next day and per my email confirmation it only said if I need to cancel I need to call the hotel. I did and they canceled. 2 weeks later my card was denied and I found out they still had not returned the money! I called hotel back they said it was canceled but I have to call the 3rd party who it was booked thru and to my surprise it was Priceline. I called Priceline after an hour on hold they connected me to their supervisor and they said I had to call another partner getaroom.com. This is absolulty ridiculous as my confirmation never mentioned any of those companies. I finally connected to a very rude person who I could barely understand and he said I need to email and ask for a refund!? I emailed the name he gave me which was receipts@roomvaluesteamcom and it’s an undeliverable address! I am so frustrated and angry I tried calling again and they hung up on me. This is absolutely disgusting and they should be closed! Don’t ever ever buy from them or Priceline for doing business with this horrible place who is scamming people!!
Dreadful company
I booked a room at Gatwick, I thought I was on the Hilton website. I didn’t receive a confirmation. I am honed the company at 10.15 got a very rude woman with a strong foreign accent. Very difficult to understand. She was completely unhelpful and put me through to a travel agent x 2. I still haven’t received confirmation of my booking. The money is gone from my account and it’s more than I ad originally advertised, I will never use them again and I would advise checking the website one is on thoroughly.
Deceptive third party booking
Thought I was on the Marriott Website. when I received the confirmation and realized my mistake, the cancellation fee was more than the cost of the room, so I ended up keeping it. Reservation went OK, but needed to call about a receipt later, and the autobot couldn't understand me and then hung up. Shitty customer service, and I was deceived from the beginning.
