Klara: The Patient Engagement Giant You've Never Heard Of
How a 129-person health tech company quietly amassed 6M monthly visits
While health tech giants battle for enterprise contracts, Klara has built a patient engagement empire in plain sight. With 6M monthly visits and 80% direct traffic, they're not just communicating—they're owning the patient relationship.
"Klara doesn't just centralize communication—it owns the entire patient interaction layer, from first touch to follow-up."
The Traffic Anomaly
Klara's 80% direct traffic is the real story. This isn't SEO magic or paid acquisition—it's proof of sticky, daily usage. Patients and providers bookmark Klara, making it their default communication channel. The 13% organic search is just noise compared to this direct-to-platform dominance.
The B2B2C Playbook
Klara's genius is selling to healthcare systems while building patient loyalty. Their 2.1/5 Trustpilot rating (13 reviews) reveals the tension—providers love the workflow automation, but patients? They're stuck with another portal login. The real test is whether 'klara patient login' (40 monthly searches) becomes a household name.
The tech stack reveals their bootstrap mentality: jQuery and Bootstrap in 2024 aren't enterprise-grade choices, but they're fast to ship. Swiper and Tailwind suggest a mobile-first design—critical when patients live on phones. This isn't a VC-funded rocket ship burning cash on fancy frameworks; it's a pragmatic growth machine.
- Direct traffic supremacy (80%) indicates product-market fit beyond marketing
- 13% organic search suggests untapped content opportunity
- 2.1/5 Trustpilot rating reveals patient experience gaps
- Bootstrap/jQuery stack signals efficient, not elegant, engineering
The Silent Patient Portal Winner
Klara proves that boring infrastructure beats flashy features. They're not disrupting healthcare—they're becoming the communication backbone, one booked appointment at a time.

Klara has saved my company a lot of…
Klara has saved my company a lot of admin time. I own a medical practice. It allows for secure HIPPA compliant messaging, scheduling, allows patients to upload docs, fill out intake forms, etc. You can add their widget to your website and clients can message directly from the site. My only compliant is their payment portal is horrendous. I still can't login to it, when i try to reset the password, it never sends a password reset link.
Only works with some carriers-not Google Voice
Only works with some carriers. Does not work with Google Voice numbers it seems. Extremely incompetent support does not know this and is extremely unhelpful. Conscisely: Their response to: What part of "I've followed these steps: link to support article ARTICLE-I-Can-t-Log-In-To-My-Account>" do you not understand? AGAIN: Do you not support texting Google Voice phone numbers? was: This is a request that requires you to reach out to your provider, as Klara support is unable to provide any details or make any changes to patient charts due to HIPAA policies. WT?
Klara is a sales gimmick targeted at gullible medical practices
Klara is nothing more than a sales gimmick targeted at medical practices. Patients receive only an incessant stream of cryptic, useless emails like this: "You have an appointment at 11:20 on 16 Jan." I have 5-10 appts every week, so that's just spam. I've inquired, and they just said they are not allowed to tell me with WHOM an appt is. I've had to block them. Klara is a lot like a demand notice I got from the most widely known hospital in the U.S., amounting to "You owe us $8,000. Send it in." (I've used that hospital several times. This was not a phishing attempt.) "What for?" No kidding: "We don't know. Just send it in." My response: "You owe ME $10,000. Send me $2,000 and we'll be even." Never heard from them again. Too bad KLARA won't back off so easily. Buh BYE! This form wants a date for my encounter. Surely they jest; I get these notices almost daily, the most recent one at about 2:30 this morning.
When I see a practice uses Klara, I go elsewhere for care
The “remember this device for 30 days” feature has never worked — not once. Every single login requires entering my birthdate, my phone number, waiting for a texted code, and then waiting for an emailed code, even if I was active in the portal minutes earlier. And now it’s actually malfunctioning: Klara sends multiple codes in rapid succession — five texts, five emails, all at once — and none of them reliably work. It’s impossible to know which code to use, and half the time none of them log you in anyway. This isn’t security; it’s a broken system. What’s most frustrating is how clear it is that Klara doesn’t prioritize patient experience. Patients aren’t the ones paying for the platform, so we end up stuck with a login process that’s tedious at best and completely unusable at worst. At this point, when I see a medical office using Klara, I go elsewhere. A patient portal should make access easier, not add unnecessary stress and barriers. Klara has become a genuine obstacle to care, and the company shows no sign of addressing it. I hope they fix this, because the current state of the login system is unacceptable.
I do not like at all to give poor reviews.
I do not like at all to give poor reviews. Most people work very hard. I wish this was true for Klara. It is difficult to navigate. In addition staff, while polite, do not respond in a timely manner. In addition, they don't seem to realize who the customer is. It seems more like do what I say as I am more important than you. In addition when you ask a question they are very slow to respond. Like another said, were I not so impressed with clinic and provider, I would not even bother.
