The 3-Person Powerhouse Selling iPhone Freedom
How a tiny team built a $200K business solving Apple's biggest user pain point
In a world where Apple locks your data inside its walled garden, Macroplant operates as a digital locksmith. With just 3 employees, this bootstrapped company generates $200K annually by selling one thing: freedom from iTunes.
"They're not building a unicorn—they're building a sustainable, profitable niche business that solves a real pain point for millions of frustrated Apple users."
The Frustrated Apple User
Macroplant's core audience isn't tech enthusiasts—it's everyday users who just want to extract their photos, messages, and music from an iPhone without iTunes' limitations. Their top keyword 'iexplorer' drives 8,060 monthly searches, proving that when Apple's native tools fail, users actively seek alternatives. This isn't about features; it's about solving a fundamental data portability problem that Apple deliberately ignores.
The Bootstrapped Efficiency Model
What's remarkable is their traffic-to-revenue ratio. With 55,520 monthly visits generating $200K annually, they're converting at roughly 3.6%—a strong figure for a software product. Their 42% organic search traffic suggests they've mastered SEO for specific pain points like 'iexplorer backup iphone' and 'export text messages.' This isn't viral growth; it's sustainable, intent-driven traffic that converts because it solves a specific, urgent problem.
Their tech stack reveals a pragmatic approach: jQuery, Bootstrap, and Tailwind CSS for the frontend, Cloudflare for security, and Google Analytics for tracking. No fancy frameworks, no over-engineering—just tools that work. This is a company focused on solving problems, not chasing tech trends. The 2.3/5 Trustpilot rating with only 7 reviews suggests either a small but loyal customer base or a product that works well enough that most users don't feel the need to leave reviews.
- Product-market fit for a specific pain point: iTunes alternatives
- SEO-driven acquisition targeting frustrated Apple users
- Bootstrapped efficiency: $200K revenue with 3 employees
- Niche dominance in iPhone-to-computer transfer market
The Anti-Unicorn Playbook
Proof that you don't need to be a unicorn to build a valuable, sustainable business. Sometimes the best opportunity is in the overlooked gaps of tech giants' ecosystems.

iExplorer software 30 day guarantee is worthless
I purchased the iExplorer software from the company. It did not work as described, I immediatly requested a refund, through email, and directly on the companies website. Two weeks went by, nothing. I've contact my bank and have requested a refund on my credit card. Their 30 day money back guarantee isn't worth anything. Do not purchase anything from this comany.
KEEP WELL CLEAR bought sharepod worked…
KEEP WELL CLEAR bought sharepod worked well all of a sudden stopped working I emailed support who were of no help at all in fact after I asked for a refund they ignored me, they dont even deserve 1 star
If I had a choice
If I had a choice, I would give them no star at all. I purchased the software, iExplorer about 2 to 3 years ago. Worked great until I purchased a new laptop after I wiped out everything on my old laptop. Bought this company's software iExplorer4 and had it on my old computer. When I tried to install iExplorer on my new laptop, I got a error message that the license exceeded. Have sent numerous messages to Macroplant via their support site. No response. Poorly customer service and NO NOT BUY any of their products on their website. After researching for a reliable software, I find this one, imazing.com a very good one. It has 4.9 stars based on 600+ reviews.
Buyer Beware!!!
Buyer BEWARE!! Bought iExplorer to transfer files from my iPhone. Product did not work with my version of the IOS. I contacted support for a refund under their 100% 30 Day Satisfaction policy: Texted, Called, and emailed. No response. Buyer BEWARE!!
