Solid tool, easy to use
Matomo is a great system. The free version works well and has everything I need. It’s a nice alternative to Google Analytics. I like that you can just add the features you really need without paying for stuff you don’t use.
Matomo is far from being usable in production
I hope it will save time for those who want to try it. They are proposed as an alternative to Google Analytics but they are not even remotely compared to the steps backwards made by Google with GA4. The documentation is laconic and disorganized, and lacks examples for the most basic cases. Their tag manager just doesn't work. The community is practically non-existent. I wasted 2 weeks trying to get Matomo working and now I have to throw all the work away because there's no way.

A paid major downgrade from GA. The software lacks so many basic functions that you would assume a paid tracking software would have. It doesn’t even by default, differentiate between paid and organic traffic. The support is also awful. There’s no live chat, and when emailing them you will 9/10 times get a response that is not helpful, or they will refer you to their community xD
Poor Analytics Data
Poor Analytics Data, with oldschool and bad UI/UX. Tried Matomo on my Website but i can't racommend it. Bad Analytics Data as well as a very bad and unuserfriendly UI/UX. Also Privacy concers are raising from day to day. Switched to Google Analytics.
Stay away from Matomo
Used Matomo for a little more than a year from now. Been a decent experience for the most time but the recent month I've faced serious issues with their service. I reached out to their support and I can only conclude has the most incompetent, slow and worst support I have ever faced. First, they do not answer your mails. After waiting almost a week, I wrote a reply to my own message that I will cancel my subscription if my issue was not resolved within 12 hours and I got an instant reply 22 minutes after. Matomo might brag that they are GDPR complant and the "ethical" alternative to GA but as a competitor they are simply not worth it. Moreover, their "1 year package" is not worth it compared to paying for your subscription monthly. TLDR; Matomo treats their loyal customers horribly. If their service does not work, there is no support to help you. Stay away from Matomo at all times.
