The 9-Person Team That Out-Muscles Notion
How Milanote's 5.9M monthly visits challenge enterprise software giants
While most SaaS unicorns burn millions on growth, Milanote achieves 5.9M monthly visits with just 9 employees and $700K revenue. This isn't a bug—it's a deliberate strategy that exposes a fundamental shift in how creative software should be built and sold.
"Milanote proves that product-market fit beats product-feature fit every single time."
The Anti-Growth Model
With 70% direct traffic, Milanote doesn't rely on paid acquisition or SEO hacks. Their users type 'milanote' (405K monthly searches) directly into browsers. This isn't marketing—it's habit formation. The 9-person team has built something people actively seek out, not something they're forced to discover through ads.
The Efficiency Paradox
Most SaaS companies need 100+ employees at this scale. Milanote needs 9. Their revenue per employee ($77K) is low, but their traffic per employee (657K visits) is astronomical. This suggests they're optimizing for user love over enterprise sales cycles—a bet that could pay off if they ever choose to monetize aggressively.
The Trustpilot rating of 2.8/5 with only 5 reviews reveals a critical insight: Milanote's users don't write reviews because they're too busy using the product. The 26% organic search traffic isn't driven by content marketing—it's driven by word-of-mouth from creative professionals who've found their digital canvas.
- Direct traffic dominance (70%) indicates product stickiness beyond marketing
- 9 employees vs 5.9M visits = 657K users per person
- The 'milanote' brand term generates 405K monthly searches organically
- Revenue is likely understated—freemium models hide true potential
The Unicorns Are Hiding in Plain Sight
Milanote isn't building for enterprise—it's building for the next generation of creative workers who've outgrown sticky notes and whiteboards. With 5.9M monthly visits and a 9-person team, they're proving that software can scale through love, not sales.

Disappointed by Recent Search Update – Milanote Is Now a Frustration, Not a Tool
I've been a long-time user of Milanote and have relied on it to organize an extensive archive of boards for my creative and professional work. Unfortunately, the recent update to the search functionality has drastically undermined its usefulness, especially for users managing large databases. Previously, I could simply type the name of a board and access it instantly, regardless of when I last viewed or edited it. That intuitive, global search was one of Milanote’s strongest features. Now, the search is inexplicably limited to recently viewed or edited content. As a result, trying to find a specific board has become a slow, frustrating experience. Instead of prioritizing boards that match the search phrase, the app now returns a disorganized list of notes, links, and individual documents that happen to contain the search term. This might make sense for some workflows, but for users who structure their work around board names, it renders search practically useless. This change feels like a major step backward. It breaks a core part of the app's UX and severely limits its scalability. Milanote is no longer viable as a central hub for organizing a large, long-term body of work. I sincerely hope the developers reconsider this decision or at least offer a toggle for classic global board search. Until then, I’ll be looking into alternatives that still respect the importance of fast, predictable access to content.
Tried to withdraw money without consent
I decided not to renew my plan when it was up in August and cancelled my plan, yet Milanote have been trying to sneekily withdraw the money for several months even though I was still within the timeframe of the one year subscription. I wasn't given an option to delete my card details. Luckily I used an old card that was out of date now and nothing was taken out. If you must sign up for Milanote, I would recommend using a virtual card that can be deleted later. My card alerted me every time Milanote tried to withdraw money, which was almost every other day over the last couple of weeks. The product itself is fine but definitely overpriced and lags a lot when you try put a lot on a board. No transparent pricing for education/nonprofit.
