Okta: The Identity Giant You Can't Ignore
How 145M monthly visitors reveal the future of authentication
In a world where 'okta login' is searched 57,000 times a month, the identity giant has already won. But with a 1.4-star Trustpilot rating, the real story isn't about growth—it's about the friction of enterprise dominance.
"When 60% of your traffic is direct, you're not a product anymore—you're infrastructure."
The Invisible Moat
Okta's traffic profile reveals something rare: 60% direct, 11% organic. This isn't a startup chasing SEO—it's a platform embedded in enterprise workflows. The 7.9M backlinks aren't marketing; they're a byproduct of becoming the default identity layer. The real moat isn't technology, it's integration gravity.
The Paradox of Scale
Revenue ($1.15B) and funding ($1.2B) tell a growth story, but the Trustpilot rating (1.4/5) reveals the enterprise trap. Okta isn't selling to end-users—it's selling to IT departments. The 39 reviews are from frustrated employees, not decision-makers. This is the B2B paradox: you can be universally disliked by users while being indispensable to the C-suite.
The keyword data exposes Okta's identity crisis. 'Okta' (263K searches) and 'okta login' (57K) dominate, but 'gmail' appears with 114M searches. Why? Because users confuse Okta with the apps it protects. This isn't a bug—it's a feature of becoming infrastructure. When your brand becomes synonymous with 'logging in,' you've transcended product category.
- Direct traffic dominance (60%) signals enterprise lock-in, not brand love
- 11% organic is shockingly low for a $1B+ company—proves their moat is sales, not SEO
- Trustpilot's 1.4 stars is a feature, not a bug: enterprise software doesn't need user happiness
- The 'okta login' search volume is a proxy for enterprise adoption, not consumer demand
Okta won by becoming invisible
The future of identity isn't a product—it's plumbing. And plumbers don't need 5-star reviews.

absolute trash
My company uses this as a portal to other company sites and its complete shit. It doesn't tell you but you cannot sign into multiple devices at once, so if you sign into Okta on your laptop at home, the next day you try to sign in at work on your phone, you're screwed. You also aren't allowed to use your own authenticator app. You can only use their own proprietary authenticator. This company is a complete money grab.
Okta Verify - Awful app
Awful app. Used as a verification app. It stays "always on" in the background of your phone and doesn't shut down unless you ask it to. But the sneaky thing is, you have to go into the task manager to see that it's still on. Regular people don't do this every day so they will have this app on their phone running constantly. The first time I caught mine, it had been running 500 hours. What it's doing I don't know, but it is always running in the background, burning your battery. Probably collecting all of your data so they can sell it. I've messaged 'report a bug' within the app multiple times and have been ignored. All I asked them to do was shut the app down after verifying, just like all the other verification apps out there. But they refuse.
Worst customer service
I have contacted 8 different people and no one has ben able to assist in cancelling my subscription. This process started about 7 weeks ago and still not results from customer service. Email after email and no one assists. Several calls and no one assists. They keep harping to open a ticket in the portal. I can log in to the portal but they do not allow permissions to start a ticket. I am still on hold as I am writing this. I have been in IT for 30 years and this has been the worst experience. I would prefer to provide a rating of 0 not 1.

Another corporate non sense company…
Another corporate non sense company that can survive just because they have a bunch of corporate customers. This has to be the worse portal I have ever seen. I can't find anything in there. There is a book mark section, and after 45 minutes trying to create a new bookmark, contacting IT to do so, and clicking on every single option in the interface, I GIVE UP. I will keep using 30 minutes to find the app I need every time. I opened this abomination. After 45 minutes, I managed to create an empty bookmark that does not show under the bookmark section and that points to nothing. GARBAGE software. If you can't figure out an easy way to allow users to bookmark apps, then just remove the bookmark option... and probably hire a developer or try a different business altogether.
