The NSD Tracking Behemoth
How a 279-person logistics firm quietly dominates a niche search term
Shipnsd.com presents a fascinating paradox: a logistics company with a $93.6M revenue footprint, yet its digital identity is completely hijacked by a single search term. This isn't a brand—it's a utility for thousands of people desperately tracking their packages.
"They aren't building a brand; they're maintaining a utility for people who have no choice but to use their tracking system."
The NSD Tracking Monopoly
The data reveals a stark reality: 'nsd' generates 19,500 monthly searches, while 'nsd tracking' pulls in another 980. This isn't marketing—it's dependency. Users aren't searching for Hub Group; they're searching for NSD, the carrier. The 63% direct traffic confirms this: people type the URL directly because they have a tracking number burning a hole in their inbox. This is the power of being the default solution in a supply chain bottleneck.
The Marten Transport Play
The headline 'Hub Acquires Marten Transport Intermodal' signals aggressive consolidation. In a fragmented logistics market, Hub Group isn't just moving freight; they're acquiring infrastructure. With 279 employees generating nearly $100M in revenue, their efficiency is razor-sharp. But the acquisition suggests they're playing a bigger game—likely trying to vertically integrate and reduce dependency on third-party carriers, which could change the NSD tracking ecosystem entirely.
The Trustpilot rating of 2.2/5 from only 9 reviews is the canary in the coal mine. It suggests that while the utility works, the experience fails. When your primary traffic source is people forced to track packages, satisfaction is irrelevant—they'll come back anyway. This creates a dangerous complacency: the data shows zero organic growth strategy, just a captive audience locked into a tracking loop.
- Traffic is 63% direct—users have no brand awareness, only transactional need
- Top keyword 'nsd' (19.5K volume) is a generic carrier term, not a brand term
- Acquisition of Marten Transport indicates vertical integration strategy
- 2.2/5 Trustpilot rating suggests poor customer experience despite captive audience
The Utility Trap
Hub Group has built a critical infrastructure piece, but they've failed to brand it. They're a $93M company hiding behind a tracking number—and that's both their strength and their existential risk.

Worthless Shipping Co.
Dropped 155 lb box on the skirt of my driveway this morning during a snowstorm. ...no notice, no knock on the door, no call...just dropped it and sped off. Police notified me as the plows didn't want to hit it as was partially in the street as well. What a sh!tty worthless shipping company.
Very poor and disappointing service
Very poor and disappointing service. No clear contact info posted in delivery communication. Had to call Home Depot's manager for them to look up number in their system. Then, could only leave voicemail to get return call back with no one there to answer phones. Anytime info had to be communicated, they only sent repeated automated messages instead of calling and always gave conflicting information. I requested in advance for items to be rescheduled as I wasn't going to be home and needed to be to inspect for any damage prior to accepting the items, but they were very rude and not accommodating. Two women (forgot their names) were very uncooperative and unhelpful. They don't really care about damage to the items or to your property. I told them I needed to be present to make sure nothing on my property gets damaged and they said just let the delivery personnel damage it and then submit a claim. That's their attitude - go ahead and damage your expensive house with our careless delivery people and then waste your time filing claims to get a lowball amount less than what it costs to repair. I had to cancel appointments just to make it home by the unwavering scheduled delivery time that they so adamantly could not change to any other day whatsoever in the future no matter what. Then, the driver and helper wanted to use dollies to wheel huge boxes through a narrow passage that required the items to just be carried through. The guys agreed to carry the items, luckily, or else a lot of stuff would have been damaged or scraped in the process. Overall, this company makes it difficult, is not easy or friendly to deal with and has created very stringent policies without accommodating customers. Would highly recommend Home Depot, JCPenney, Wayfair, 1Stop Bedroom, Flex a Bed and Octane to find a better carrier to deal with. Even Home Depot staff was disappointed when I told them how hard it was to communicate and deal with these hard-headed employees.
Contracted through Amazon
Contracted through Amazon. This is the second time I have had the displeasure of waiting on a delivery from this company. The first time I actually went to the hub 60 miles away and picked it up myself. This time I cancelled the order. It's been sitting at the local hub for two weeks and no contact from them at all t schedule a delivery. Very poor customer service!
Contracted through home depot, do not use
Bought a piece of furniture through home depot, NSD messed it up completely and won't take responsibility. Originally sent to the wrong City in the same state, then when we later States they delivered it to the address as described. Was not completed, was not delivered, will not take responsibility. They're chat function is a joke, they simply close the chat when you ask about the issue. Strongly recommend Home Depot avoid this company for further shipping needs and people need to inquire if their product is being shipped through NSD before they purchase. Read the reviews, I'm not the only one.
Don’t bother
Don’t bother. They show up when you say not to, try to make it look as though it’s your fault the item couldn’t be delivered, and then disappear. There is never anybody who actually handles your delivery that is available to provide answers - all calls go to a call center overseas and it ends there. Spare yourself the BS!
