TripLog: The $0.4M Mileage Tracker
A lean, six-person team building a niche finance tool in a crowded market
In the crowded world of mileage tracking apps, TripLogmileage.com isn't trying to be the next unicorn. It's a lean, six-person operation generating $400K annually by solving one specific problem for business drivers. But with a 2.3/5 Trustpilot rating and a global rank outside the top 1.5 million, the real question is: is this a sustainable niche play or a business on life support?
"This isn't a growth story; it's a lifestyle business masquerading as a tech startup."
The User Base: Loyal but Small
TripLog's traffic profile reveals a business built on retention, not discovery. With 56% direct traffic and only 39% coming from organic search, this is a tool users bookmark and return to—not one they find through SEO. The 16.7K monthly visits are modest, but the high direct traffic suggests a dedicated core user base. However, the 2.3/5 Trustpilot rating from 7 reviews indicates satisfaction issues that could be limiting word-of-mouth growth.
The SEO Paradox
TripLog ranks for 'trip log' (580 monthly volume) and 'mileage calculator' (11,790 volume), but these keywords are brutally competitive. The app's SEO strategy appears reactive rather than aggressive. With only 39% organic traffic, they're missing a massive opportunity to capture the 11.7K monthly searches for 'mileage calculator.' This is a classic case of a product that works but doesn't scale its acquisition channels.
The six-person team structure is telling. With roles like Chief Growth Officer and VP Sales, TripLog is clearly focused on enterprise sales, not product-led growth. This isn't a self-serve SaaS tool; it's a solution that likely requires human touchpoints to close deals. The $400K revenue with 6 employees suggests either high efficiency or low pricing—likely the latter in the mileage tracking space.
- The 56% direct traffic indicates strong user retention but poor new user acquisition
- Missing the 11.7K monthly 'mileage calculator' searches is a critical SEO gap
- A 2.3/5 Trustpilot rating with only 7 reviews suggests quality issues that prevent scaling
- The six-person team structure points to a lifestyle business, not a venture-scale opportunity
TripLog is a profitable niche, not a scalable platform
It solves a real problem for a specific audience, but lacks the growth engine or product excellence to become a category leader. For founders, this is a lesson in building a sustainable business; for investors, it's a pass.

The best mileage tracker
The best mileage tracker It's very simple and easy to use. Would rate 6 stars if I could.
Silly price increase - lost my business
I've been using triplog since 2015. It's an good system (although not always reliable with automatic logging) and in the past I have recommended it to colleagues. But you have just hiked the annual subscription from £25.60 to £45.89 and next year no discount so £50.99! Seems like you are not interested in supporting small businesses any more. It's just not worth that much money per year for the time it saves me in logging business miles. App was developed long ago so why the need for a massive price increase I cannot fathom. Downloaded all my historical data and will be closing my account. Now trying Everlance which seems to do the same for 30 trips per month for free. Alternatively back to a little black book like the old days - always worked fine.
they will continue to charge you even when you’ve canceled
I used it for three years and it worked fine for recording my mileage for the IRS then I got a company car and canceled my subscription. Then I noticed two years later they sent me a renewal notice and I checked online and I had paid the last two years through autopay although the representative agreed that I hadn’t used it in two years since there were no records that it was out of the refund. It was obvious that I had canceled and they automatically renewed without approval, but yet it was my fault.
Sipping the special tea??
I used them for a couple years now and it is fine when it works. But when there are issues (and there will be), the customer support is non-existent. They only have a chat (no phone number) and are not interested in diving into the issue to help. All they kept doing was telling me to uninstall the app and when that didn't work they said to search through all my phone to find any files that may still be there and delete them. They must be sipping on too much magic mushroom tea up there in Washington b/c they just lost another customer. Be wise. Read the reviews all over the web and don't trust the stats they post on their site. Misleading at best, and unlawful at worst. Terrible company without a clue.
Complete waste of time and money
Been faithfully pressing the little button in my car to register trips as business or personal use and when I come to do my taxes it thinks that 99% of trips are business and I've done 4 personal use in the last year. Are they trying to get me done for tax fraud? The report was extremely difficult to make sense of and was all in dollars (obviously thinks Preston is in America). Don't buy.
