Zscaler: The Invisible Cloud Gatekeeper
How a $761M security platform commands 61% direct traffic and owns the SASE narrative
While most security companies fight for attention, Zscaler quietly processes 190 billion daily transactions for 7,923 employees across the globe. They're not just a cybersecurity vendor—they're the invisible infrastructure making the modern cloud possible.
"When 61% of your traffic is direct, you're not marketing—you're infrastructure."
The SASE Dominance Play
Zscaler's keyword strategy reveals their masterstroke. While competitors chase 'cloud security,' Zscaler owns 'SASE' (33K monthly searches) and captures 'is cloudflare down' traffic (198K searches)—a brilliant move to intercept frustrated users seeking alternatives. They're not just building a product; they're redefining the category.
The Enterprise Trust Equation
With 7,923 employees and a 2.2/5 Trustpilot rating, Zscaler represents the classic enterprise paradox: the product works, but the experience creates friction. This isn't a consumer app—it's critical infrastructure where uptime matters more than UX polish. Their 61% direct traffic proves enterprises don't need to 'discover' them; they're already on the vendor shortlist.
Zscaler's tech stack tells a story of modern web development meets enterprise scale. Next.js powers their platform, while Swiper and Tailwind CSS create a polished experience. They're leveraging Progressive Web Apps (PWA) and Priority Hints—advanced techniques that signal a team obsessed with performance at scale. This isn't legacy enterprise software; it's a cloud-native platform wrapped in a modern web experience.
- Direct traffic dominance (61%) signals zero reliance on paid acquisition
- Captures competitor pain points ('is cloudflare down') for organic growth
- 1.6M backlinks establish domain authority that competitors can't replicate
- CEO Jay Chaudhry's founder-led vision drives category creation
Zscaler isn't selling security—they're selling inevitability
When you own the category and command direct traffic, you become the default choice. That's how $761M revenue happens.

Worst product ever
Worst product ever, it keeps blocking sites unnecessarily and its too restrictive. it decreases productivity a lot
Absolutely useless
Absolutely useless. I work for a publisher and regularly have to access the websites of the worlds most prestigious scientists [Harvard, Stanford, etc], and without fail, Zscaler will quarantine these websites. Only big commercial websites escape the quarantine. Ironically, being quarantined by Zscaler is a mark of quality. Zscaler is simply not fit for purpose and is only used by large corporations because it is are cheaper than its competitors.
Truly abysmal support from ZScaler
Truly abysmal support from ZScaler. Been waiting two weeks for an engineer to make contact with me and still nothing. Advised them that my emails were not being received by them but nothing still. Every time I call them, I get dead air constantly while they "look into it" no signposting, no regular feedback.
Useless
Useless. I do not recommend it.
The most bug infested not fit for…
The most bug infested not fit for purpose application award should be given to Zscaler. Every day there is an issue and when they give an new update then brace yourself for more issues. This app should be banned.
