Hubstaff is a great tool for managing remote employees. Its milestone-based task organization makes it especially practical. One of its strongest features is the ability to indirectly monitor employees’ screens, which gives Hubstaff real power as a management tool. However, this same feature can also be seen as a downside. Employees need to be fully aware that their screens may be monitored, which could potentially lead to misunderstandings. That said, it’s important to note that this feature can easily be turned off — so it’s not a major issue. Another point of criticism is the somewhat cluttered and overly complex menu navigation. While it offers a wide range of features that leave little to be desired, its complexity can be a bit overwhelming.

customer service is awful
customer service is awful, I regret it. I never mind paying a price for quality. But there just is lack of transparency, the add on features are individual on top of the annual fee they charge they rack up monthly add ons & not enough clarity. They take forever on customer service side to be of any help. I recommend you shop elsewhere for similar programs.
The issue isn’t seat-based pricing
The issue isn’t seat-based pricing — it’s lack of disclosure. Hubstaff’s interface allows you to “Add a user” without clearly stating that this creates a paid recurring seat. Viewer-only users and temporary workers also triggered charges, with no confirmation screen or billing-change email. Charges continued while support tickets went unanswered. When support did respond only after being prompted and weeks later, they cited internal policy instead of addressing consent or transparency and most importantly consumer protection laws that apply to this type of situation. This could have been resolved easily with clear pricing warnings, but as it stands, the billing experience is not transparent at all.

Awful. Constantly nickel and dime you for every small feature. They also billed me for something I never signed up for, and then refused to offer a refund because I didn't notice till after a 30-day waiting period. HIGHLY recommend you do not use them.
