li.me: The $1.5B Mobility Ghost

A revenue-generating giant with a 1.2-star rating and a domain identity crisis

li.me isn't a typo—it’s the digital front door for a $169M mobility empire that owns the streets but hates its own name. While competitors fight for eyeballs, this Lime (the scooter company) has quietly built a traffic funnel that converts 50% of its visitors organically, proving that brand confusion can still pay the bills.

"Lime owns the scooter, but 'li.me' owns the SEO disaster. It's a masterclass in how to lose the brand battle but win the traffic war."

The Identity Crisis Traffic

Lime (the company) is burning cash on branding, yet 22.9% of their traffic is attributed to 'undefined' in the analytics—likely a tracking failure or a domain confusion so severe that users don't know where they're going. The top keyword is simply 'lime' (126K volume), followed by 'lime bike' and 'lime scooters,' but 'li me' (5,760 volume) sits in the top 5. The company is paying for a domain that actively confuses its own search data.

The Tech Stack Paradox

For a $1.5B unicorn, the tech stack is surprisingly lightweight. They use Alpine.js and Tailwind CSS—modern but minimal. No heavy React frameworks, no complex backend visible. This suggests a highly optimized, static-heavy frontend designed for speed and conversion, not feature bloat. It's the tech stack of a startup, not a global mobility giant.

The Trustpilot score of 1.2/5 (379 reviews) is a glaring red flag. In the food & drink/transportation industry, a score this low usually indicates a product that works but a customer service experience that fails. It suggests that while the app gets users on scooters, the operational side—maintenance, billing, support—is broken. The revenue is real, but the goodwill is evaporating.

  • The 'li.me' domain is an SEO trap: It cannibalizes brand search with a confusing TLD.
  • 1,908 employees generating $169M revenue = ~$88k revenue per employee, a lean operation for mobility.
  • Backlinks (165K) are strong, but the domain authority is diluted by the generic 'lime' keyword.
  • Traffic is global but undefined—literally. 22.9% of traffic sources are unclassified.
They DON'T own their brand narrative (1.2-star rating).
They DO capture massive organic search (50% of traffic).
They DON'T track traffic sources accurately (22.9% undefined).
They DO generate real revenue ($169M) with a lean team.
They DON'T have a premium tech stack (Alpine.js over React).
They DO convert intent (Top keyword: 'lime' = 126K monthly searches).

li.me is a ghost in the machine

It’s a $169M revenue business operating on a domain that confuses users, tracks poorly, and irritates customers—yet it still wins. The lesson? In mobility, product-market fit is so strong that you can survive a branding suicide.

Charging monthly payments for no reason

They always would overcharge but recently I noticed I had a direct debit for £3.99 a month which had been taken from my card for a few months without me noticing. It was from lime. When I asked them for help they denied any responsibility and claimed the £3.99 was for a lime pass I had bought but I’ve been driving for months now and ontop of that there are no subscriptions on their site or app that are £3.99 a month. Absolute scammers.

Promising service, but broken bikes and unfair charges ruin the experience in London.

I moved to London a few months ago and was really excited to use Lime—especially as a weekday alternative to dealing with house traffic on short trips. It seemed like a smart and eco-friendly way to get around. But now I’m consistently disappointed. I’ve found multiple broken bikes, tried to cancel rides when the bag or bike was malfunctioning—and still got charged. Most upsettingly, even after reporting a bike as damaged, I saw the same bike remain active hours later, ready to trap the next unsuspecting rider. On one occasion I tried three different bikes in a row, all unusable and all still charging users. This feels like being robbed—not a glitch. If a bike is reported broken, it must be immediately deactivated. Leaving it live is irresponsible and dishonest. London riders deserve better. If Lime acts and improves, I’ll happily make this review more positive—but for now, it’s frustrating, disappointing, and unfair.

In USA you should check your bank satatements always, they scammy charging you

In Charlotte, NC, USA, they charged incorrect amount and if I did not check the bank statement I would not notice. This is awfull business practice when companies charge cards like that. I double-checked all my history of rides as well as bank statement and raised the ticket just 5 minutes ago. I think they will refund with apologies otherwise i will do a chargeback since i have all the proofs. Despite the result, even if they apologize, it's not ok to practice such scam activities. I think FTC must pay attention and stop this kind of fraud.

Don't waste your money

This is the worst e-scooter company. Dishonest and take your money when they can't offer their service. Allowed me to sign on after their cut-off hours and then cut me off because it was during their cut off hours. Delete their app and don't bother. Everytime I use Lime there is an issue. Unreliable and zero stars
